Hi,
Just taken the bike infor a service at Vines in Guildford and they have called to say the rear shock is leaking.

They have quoted £477 for a replacement, what do you guys advise? can they be rebuilt for a decent cost? if I need to replace it at that price I would rather get a better shock.

My rear shock has a very slight weep. Only noticable when the oil stains the grime. I wont change/fix mine until the damping is diminished. When the shock does feel shagged I will try to get a shock off a newish low mileage bike from a breaker.

Alternatively, get a test ride on a new GS from a different dealer, ride around the corner and switch the shock for your knackered one.

Appears it is not leaking after all!! It was flaggen in the service but i've had a thorugh look round and there is no sign of leaks, do they usually go from the bottom seal? there are no oil marks on the shaft or any other signs of oil leakage.. also tried pushing the back end up and down and there is plenty of damping.:bounce1

That could mean there is no oil left in it.

I'm fitting Ohlins this week, I have a rear shock you can have for nothing - the rear dampening adjuster has seized but nothing has leaked and dampening is still working.

That's a generous offer, I would like to take you up on at least borrowing your shock, that way I can compare to my own shock so I ca see if there is any difference. As it stands I think I can feel the damping working fine when I push the back up and down so i don't thing I will need to keep it but I would like to use it to compare with mine.
