Hello

Ok, a final check on my sanity before i take off the shock send it away and have the bike off the road for a few weeks (just as the sun comes out...).

With the bike on the side stand and preload turned down to zero i measure from a point on the pannier rails down to the centre of the rear wheel spindle. Now, still on the side stand i turn the preload up to max. Measuring the same points I only see an increase of 2mm, i.e SFA.

This isnt right is it? there's not some strange bmw thing that i'm not aware of?

The shock's damping is fine but i think the preload adjustment aint working...

I'm not going mad am i ?

The riders manual recommends that shock preload is done on the centre stand, as it hydraulic it might make a difference, also try bouncing the rear a couple of times and then check.

No guarentees, thats all speculation buts its what I would try.

You mean they recommend you adjust it when its on the centre stand? rather than measure the difference between two settings? That would make sense as on the centre stand the back wheel is in the air, so the shock isnt actually doing anything.

Doesnt help me work out whether my sanity is question though :) :)

When you set the pre-load to zero, did you take the bike off the side-stand and 'bounce' it to settle it before you did any measurements? When you wound it up did you 'bounce' it?

If both answers are 'yes', it sounds like it's goosed.

mmm... i will try again today and give it an extra bounce around to be sure.
