Just changed the rear shock on my 07 45k mile GS. I got a refurbished one from ABE in Londonshire as recommended by St Eptoe. Blimey didn't realise how bad my old one was. Just bouncing on it in the garage it seems a lot firmer and that is on min preload and about 3/4 turn from the softest rebound or compression.
Yet to try it on the road but will report back.
The nice man at ABE did it on an exchange basis without a surcharge on my old shock. It's good to see that there is still an element of trust in the world. Off to the post office tomorrow to get robbed for postage on the old unit.

ABE are decent set of ol' muckers IME.

Luckily, I used to able to pop in with moi cream crackered shocks.

Out of interest, what £ price from ABE for an exchange shock?? Was this for the non-ESA version.

Do you know if they also refurb the ESA shcoks from a 2010 GS?

It was a non- ESA shock. I get the impression that they can do most shocks. They re-gas them whereas others use oil over oil. You can tell by the filling port they silver solder near the top.
I had the full works including a new ram and it was £170 inc. vat and postage. They have various levels of servicing, call them and have a chat. They will want your old one back. They did seem a little reluctant to send one out without mine first but I suppose I was lucky as they had one one the shelf.
Looks like there could be a business opportunity here for them. I know Jaws does an exchange but with a surcharge that is refundable if your old one can be refurbished.

Try Parcel2go.com

In my experience they are cheaper, will take a much wider range of parcel sizes & weights, and will collect the parcel from your home.

Been out to the post office to post old shock back. £12:eek:
Anyway, the shock feels most strange. It feels like there is no rebound damping. Compression feels okay but you can feel the the shock extending and it feels like it is hitting the stop inside. The old one felt a lot more smooth. Perhaps I'll increase the damping and back the preload off as well.
Of course it could be what the shock is supposed to be like but I have never felt anything like this on a new shock before.

They sent back my original but refurbished. They also gave me a partial refund as well. But the shock is great now. It feels 'supple' if that makes sense. Anyway they were very open and honest with me and we resolved the problem. After speaking with them I would recommend you get your own shock refurbished as there are some differences on the inside between them, apparently.

Many shocks (though not the most posh ones) even those with adjustment have no compression damping - its all on the rebound.
