I went to my local BMW to have the first service done and they've discovered a screw in the rear tyre of my brand new LC GS :-(. It was about an inch long and was stuck inside the tyre diagonally so it never punch the tyre but it was outside the legal bands to be repair.

A new tyre costs £120 including VAT and free labour.

Ive uploaded a video in youtube for your entertainment ..

Weirdly I got one the other weekend. I was on my way to Cadwell to watch a mate race and got a pressure warning on the dash, which is nice.

It's the first puncture I've had in something like twenty years.

£109 for a new tyre from Bike Tyres in Leeds. However, luckily they were able to save the tyre with a plug and reckoned that it was as good as new.

So your tyre pressure monitoring system really works :aidan

New tyre punctures

Am starting to think it's actually quite common for a new tyre to pick up punctures. Happened to me on my very first bike. She was delivered by BMW van, I'd ridden her 20 miles and the following morning noticed a large nail embedded in the rear tyre.

As a new rider it made me very very careful about checking the wheels before every ride.

As the pressure didn't drop, and the TPM isn't psychic, it wouldn't would it:rolleyes::D

I love TPM. As long as you know what it does, how it works, it's a brilliant safety net. I ride with the TPM screen showing most of the time. It tells me when the tires are warm (pressure will shift up slightly) and lets me know when I'm running the right pressures for rain, shine or track.

I went through a period where I picked up 3 punctures in about 6 months - I was getting paranoid and started to think that someone was sabotaging my bike. Haven't had a puncture recently, touch wood - things just happen that way sometimes.

Agreed. I ride with TPM showing also :thumb2

No need to ride with TPM on display. It will automatically go to the TPM display if there is a drop in pressure:rob

At what point does it notify you of reduced pressure? I was on electronics course in Oxford last year and met a guy who designed the electronics for the BOSCH sensors that are fitted to all BMW vehicles - he reckoned that they were only accurate to about 3psi.

I got one on the rear of my RT a couple of weeks ago after leaving NOG having had its MOT.

The tyres were only 2 weeks old with about 500 miles on them! :blast

The guys at NOG were ever helpful, still gutted though.

Puncture on LC

Hi.i had a puncture on my new LC on the way back from the TT ,riding back to hull 10 miles from hull the tyre warning light came on an informed me that the rear tyre had dropped to 2.1 bar ,as I was two up and fully loaded this was great to be informed that there was a problem ,without the monitors ,the first I would have known was when it went further down and the bike started to wobble ,I pulled into a garage and found a nail dead in the centre of the tread ,I put the pressure back up and got home safely ,the tyre was repaired successfully . This is the first puncture in 15 years and I feel that the monitors are definitely worth having .

New tyres are more susceptible to punctures due to the fact the rubber is fresh and sticky.
So the front wheel tends to "lift" objects as it passes over leaving them perfectly poised to stick into the closely following rear tyre . ;)

The Non LC Lovers must be delighted with my post

'New GS prone to tyre punctures due to bla bla bla' :-)

It lets you know real quick and well before the bike starts to squirm.
