Rear wheel bolts stuck.

Plenty of penetrating fluid used. Tried impact gun today, nothing budged, socket snapped, but in fairness it wasn’t an impact socket, friend will lend me the gun again with impact socket. Next time I’m going to try the boiling water. In the meantime, plenty of spray.

Have you put the other bolts back in and nipped them up?

In my experience the impact guns are over-rate for many jobs. Such as a wheel, where you are able to prevent the wheel from turning it take a heck of a gun to manage more force than a regular QUALITY bit and a long extension arm. Remember, an average fat guy with a 1 m extension is able to produce more than 1000Nm.

heat it up with a hairdyer and cool it quickly - worth a try

Last year had an issue with the front sprocket retaining nut on my 650 versys, had someone holding the bike in 1st gear with rear brake on and in order none of the following would shift the nut.
Socket and 1/2" ratchet
Socket and 1/2" breaker bar
Impact socket on 1/2 " windy gun
Impact socket on 1/2" professional quality cordless impact gun( borrowed off a mate who is an hgv mechanic)
3/4"drive socket on a 3/4 drive windy gun ( this on turned over the engine in gear and with brake applied)

Finally used an old fork stanchion coveredi n pipe wrap between swinging arm and rear wheel to prevent it moving and a 3/4" drive socket on a 2'6" breaker bar with a 5' length of scaffolding pipe and it came straight off.

Thing is the torque figure for the nut ( the original ) is about half of that of a normal car wheel bolt

You should have tried the boiling water first - it was a free tip

I didn’t believe it would work, where Plus Gas had failed to shift the shock rebound screw - but it did

my experience has been exactly the opposite. An cordless impact gun's hammering action frees bolts and nuts quicker , with more authority. I have rounded off fasteners which if I had got at them first with an impact gun , would not have caused so much grief.
