if i rock the rear wheel holding top and bottom there is about 3mm of movement , is this caused by the bevel gear being worn? do i replace or adjust? will the wheel fall off? can i get home? ok with spanners can i diy or is it a arse of a job needing special tools
any pointers welcomed
cheers cral

Apply the rear brake and hold on.

If the movement vanishes then it's the bearing in the bevelbox. Should the movement remain then it's the small paralever bearings the bevelbox rotates around. I seem to remember north/south movement is b/box bearing and e/w paralever.

Pull the boot back, insert a finger so it touches the paralever pivot and paralever wall and feel for movement.

Do a search, you'll find plenty of instructions for paralever bearing replacement and [maybe] b/box bearing replacement. Try ADVrider too.

For b/box replacement you could post to Sherlocks, replacing paralever bearings while the final drives away.

If paralever bearings ( most likely), just adjust them.
