rear wheel spindle

What are they making these bikes out of? I took my gs800 in for its 7000 mile service and a list of recalls fixed.Guess what? they found a new one. The rear wheel spindle was cracked in three places around the threaded end.
I am very happy with the bike and its performance on and off road but I thought bmw had made an effort on this bike to get it right first time?

This is a new recall, or just a problem with yours?

Not a recall yet but worth checking your bike.If you look at the threaded end of spindle,you can see the cracks radiating away from center bore to the edge.
