I have a late 2003 1150 GS Adventure (EVO ABS). It's been handling weirdly since I took off the rear wheel for a puncture repair (I have put the wheel back on...:D).

Feels like the front tire is flat (Tourance EXP 36/42psi) but the tires are fine and only 1000 miles on them. Can anyone confirm that there is not a washer between the wheel and hub on this model bike (part 3 on the diagram)? I'm pretty sure there never was one :nenau

I have a 2002 Adv (originally had servo ABS) and there is definitely a part 3 washer sandwiched between the rear hub and the final drive.

It's quite a substantial piece aswell - approx 3mm thick.

Stupid question as the picture shows a wire wheel, what wheels do you have wire or alloy?

My 99 has nothing:beer:

Wire wheels. I think I'll call BMW today for a definitive answer. Thanks for all your replies:beerjug:

For me:
2002 GS ABS wire wheels = no washer
2002 RT ABS allow wheels = washer

Washers

Why not just check the wheel alignment?, this will show any missing washer as they will not line up correctly.

I am going to guess that each and every bike maybe different, and that the washer is there to adjust tracking at the factory, with some needing a spacer of varying thickness and others needing nothing. :nenau

That's what i thought.

All my bikes with ABS have had the washer, my Non ABS bikes have never had one fitted.

It is correct:clap

That's how they come from the factory, when new

Over the years and over multiple owners, the washer may have been lost on your ABS Oilhead BMW

So my ABS 2002 GS has had it's washer lost by one of the previous 5 owners. I don't notice any odd handling from it.
The final drive bearing is still original and has done 80,000 miles. I get 15,000 from a rear Tourance tyre. Cornering is good.

So, what did the washer do? Is it just a spacer to help provide the correct ABS sensor gap? If so, my ABS works fine although there are lots of shims (about 2-3mm worth) between the sensor and the drive housing.

Regards
