OK, so imagine that your Vario Top box expansion mechanism didn't want to work properly, i.e. jammed up and making some disturbing noises. You'd get a screwdriver and take the inside apart so you could see and then fix the mechanism, right? Maybe not if you have more sense than me. 
That's what I did. The problem is the cogs had got out of synch. Now I have no idea how to get them correctly lined up so it works properly. Started to get angry with it so it's time to leave it and accept defeat / ask for help before I properly break something.
Any suggestions? I have found an old thread which explains how to inspect the mechanism without taking it apart to the extent I have but that was of course only after I took a screwdriver to it.
