Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but this is where we put posts about off-road stuff, so:

ReclaimRUPs - epetition reply7 March 2007

We received a petition asking:

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to re-open the greenlanes and public byways that have lost vechicular (sic) access under the NERC bill."

Details of petition:

"The NERC Bill gained Royal Assent on 30/3/06, and is now the Natural Environment & Rural Communities Act 2006. Under NERC we have lost the rights to drive along thousands of miles of public rights of way. We the undersigned beleve this to be descrimitory towards motor vechicle users in our free access to these byways."

Read the Government's response

The Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 does not, as has been suggested, represent the end of the road for recreational users of motorised vehicles on rights of way. The intention of the Act is to restrict the recording of additional byways on the definitive map and statement, on the basis of historical horse and cart use (or dedication for such use). Existing byways open to all traffic, which extend to around 4,500km in England and Wales - roughly 2% of the rights of way network - will not be affected in any way.

At one time, there appeared to be the prospect of deferring commencement of the new legislation on this basis, but the strength of feeling - across all parties - for early commencement was overwhelming and it became very clear, as the Bill progressed, that Parliament was unconvinced that a voluntary approach would work.

The Government firmly believes that the way forward on this issue is through a mixture of legislation, better guidance and co-operation between users. With this in mind we have also published new guidance to promote the better enforcement of existing powers to manage vehicles on rights of way and an update to our practical guide to managing un-surfaced vehicular routes: Making the Best of Byways. Defra has also published online guidance on the rights of way provisions in the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act.

Got mine as well.I think it says feck off!
Doesn't bode well for the road pricing objections either.

Isn't that a polite (politicions) way of telling us to fe8k off

What a waste of time...

I also got the response, and the one from my objection to road pricing and also one objecting to the farcical ID card proposals.

Response to all of them has been a polite "go forth and multiply, peasant".

Yet another example of Blair's prediliction for creating the impression of listening whilst at the same time totally ignoring the opinions of the general public.

Makes me f*cking sick. :mcgun

And I've discovered I've turned into my dad and started shouting at the radio or TV every time I hear his irritating whine :rob

Now, where did I put my "come the revolution" smilie?

ive sighned loads of these things for various objectives recently and every single one has been replied with 'this is what we were going to do, we've read your little list, now were going to do it anyway' b@sterds.

Had it , read it , deleted it ,

going riding in the peaks sunday ..........Feck it ! :spitfire :spitfire

I suppose it was naive of us to think that they would listen to our views anyway, after all, they know what's best for us.:blast
The kids thought it was amusing that I had got a reply.
Then I explained it to them.
My lad is thinking of taking politics, he seems to think he may be able to change things.
Do I tell him the truth, or let him find out for himself?
