Does anyone have any experience of setting up a means of recording from an Autocom. I have an on-bike HD video camera that has a 3.5mm audio in. However, I would prefer to record to a separate device, some sort of a solid state MP3 recorder would be ideal. This would allow me to mix with the audio from the camera later giving far better control.

Any suggestions for the recording device welcome but what I really want to know is what lead will I require to connect my Super Pro Avi to the recording device (assuming 3.5mm 3 pole jack). I have seen that there is the #2460, however, would the standard audio lead that came with the Super Pro do the job if I don't need isolation?

you need a din to phono or mini jack depending on the camera/ recorder it's the grey cable from memory on the Autocom system. Mine did not need isolation from power as we ran of a seperate donor battery.. to save the bikes power.

I did some testing but like a prat threw the wiring diagram away.

Autocom use to make that cable and sell it... just for that purpose...:thumb2

As for recorders I use a Edirol RO9 which is a spot on unit. The Marantz is meant to be good too...

seperated left and right which allowed me to record the bike to bike one on channel as isolated

Thanks for the reply Lo-IQ

The grey cable is the one for bike-to-bike radio isn't it? I have a fairly loaded system with connections for PMR radio via a PTT switch (this uses the grey lead), sat nav (incorporating MP3), Bluetooth module for phone. The pillion headset is unused so I suppose I could tap into the audio feed from that, thanks for the germ of that idea :thumb

At the NEC I got a lead that should connect my sat nav to the Autocom and enable me to use the phone though that but I've yet to get around to fitting and testing it. If it works OK then I'll be able to ditch the Bluetooth module and free up another Aux socket.

However, the Autocom #2460 record lead plugs into one of the four pole Aux sockets by the looks of things. This is £28 and has an isolator to protect against Ground Loop Interference I assume. If a straight lead would work for a non bike powered device (so no GLI protection required) then I can save a few quid. I used to have an Autocom BikeCam set-up that had a record lead in the box but that got sold with the camera. Should have al least noted the pin-outs :banghead:

sorry it's the pillion lead if you don't have a pillion, you should be able to isolate the audio feed from that to one side of the recorder then use the incoming radio on the other side. giving you two seperate channels.

obviously you'll need to sync that back to VT track but that's another story....:D

Spoke to Autocom themselves this morning and was told that the regular stereo lead would work so long as the recording device wasn't powered off the bike. I'm not utterly convinced but will try this out with an old tape Dictaphone before plugging in my new MP3 version that'll hopefully be under the Christmas tree.
