They are the perfect GSer boot IMHO:bow:
all-day comfy on the bike and walking
Warm in winter
not too warm in summer
100% waterproof
not too heavy and clumpy
not too many buckles
better than Couriers

They tick all the boxes for me:thumb

How about the BMW Santiago boot a MX / touring hybrid. Kevlar inserts 100% warm and dry. Have had a pair for 2.5 years and they are still going strong and you also get a 2 year warranty with them like on all of the BMW clothing.

Hope this helps Tom

Got my TCX Infinity's from here after looking around loads and asking for recommendations as you have - I then found out that the most common recommendation was for manufacturers (including BMW) that put their own badge on this boot ...........

Hein Gericke Touaregs - waterproof, breathable, all-day comfort, OK to walk in and not too expensive. :thumb

Altbergs and for that matter, the HG Tuareg boots, are all very well IF YOU DON'T GIVE A FLYINGFEKK ABOUT THE PROTECTION YOUR FEET AND ANKLES GET.

Justlike with people asking what the 'perfect alround jacket' is , I'm not sure there is such a thing as a perfect 'All round boot', particularly if you have a list of requirements AND want a degree of safety

I suspect that the closest it may be possible to get might well be the Aerostich 'COMBAT TOURING BOOTS'

I haven't worn any , but they get fantastic rave reviews all the time over on ADVrider, and they're made by SIDI (as you can tell from the styling)

They're expensive, but if you ask someone who's broken an ankle riding in crappy boots if they think that paying a bit extra would have been worth it, you won't find any who say no......

As I said, I've not tried them, but going by experiences with similar SIDI boots, they ought to be pretty damn comfortable as well.

Why Sidi don't do them over here is beyond me :nenau

I'm with you on the ankle protection but doubt that those give significantly more protection than Altbergs and perhaps even less than something like the TCX Infinity boots and yes, I have both of those.

I also have a friend who is a serial crasher and once managed to get his foot caught between his VFR and the road in a 60 mph slide, after which he was able to get up and walk away due to the protection offered by his Altbergs. Remember that both Altberg and TCX boots have CE certification.

Not that I'm advocating Altbergs as offering anything like ultimate levels of protection. Mine have become pretty saggy and baggy after a good few years of use. I suspect that any boot which has a traditional leather construction offers little in the way of protection against inversion and eversion injuries to the ankle; especially when they've suffered the aforementioned ravages of time. The greatest levels of protection against such injuries are going to be offered by boots with an exo-skeleton or those with an inner bootie with a hinged ankle joint or, ultimately, those of plastic construction such as the Scott USA boots.

For my own part, I'm currently wearing TCX Infinity Gore-Tex, having gone through a phase of wearing Oxtar (now TCX) Space boots as something of a lightweight alternative to my bomb proof Sidi Flexforce SRS.

Anyone who's interested in the protective properties of off-road boots may be interested in this website....

Not sure about your first comment; I believe my Tuaregs give more than adequate protection to my toes, heel, ankle and shin. Totally agree your second comment though; perfection, like beauty, is (mostly) in the eye of the beholder. Each to his/her own!

whehey a pair of infinitys on their way for £170 inc p&p from 2wheelers international :thumb2

as an aside my right foot was saved in a side impact by a pair of DM's. unavoidable head on, bike swung to the side on impact breifly trapping crushing my right foot between bike/ car bonnet  the rigidity of the sole stopped my foot from being crushed, you should have seen the dent in the bonnet :bow. dont think a pair of road boots would have been much good in that situation. still dont think dms are that good on a bike though :nenau

The TCX Infinitys are damn good boots that you can wear all year round (and I do). Cool enough in summer and warm in winter. I took one pair back to my local dealer which were 11 months old as they sprung a leak and they were replaced FOC without issue. These boots also came top in a Ride magazine review of boots in terms of benig waterproof and safe. Most certainly worth the money.

Enjoy :thumb2

... between 'touring' and full on MX boots are the Dianese Virunga, I've had a pair for two years and they are a very comfy compromise. Don't be put off by the coloured panels as they do come in several 'quieter' shades :thumb2

My Dianese Virunga boots have now started to leak after 3years of use. I am quite happy with the fit which seems to suit my wide, shallow feet so have gone for the same again with the old pair retired to summer use only.

Was quite impressed with the Alpinestar Durban boots but @ £130 more for the pair I could not justify the cost.

HG TCX are the best boots I have had, dont work with sports bikes though as the angle your foot sits at pops the clips. THe daytonas I'm using now also do the job.
