I want to use my Tom Tom Via 1505 on a bike for 2 days at the end of the month. Have seen a clamp on zip bag mount on web but it was criticised as fragile by some people. Anyone mounted a car unit on a bike successfully?

It's probably the Akron case you're looking for. Ran one of these on my VFR with a Garmin Nuvi for a couple of years, trips abroad and in the UK. Now have a Zumo 660 so sold it to a m8 who has a Nuvi. Still in perfect working order and far from fragile unless maybe you're seriously ham fisted. Even then it would probably be OK.
Did mist up a little when cold and damp as GPS within got fairly warm, especially when playing MP3s. Otherwise no complaints at all.
So the wee ball clamp fitted the handle bar perfectly and there was a 12V power socket nearby. Wasn't happy popping the ball in and out of the Via 1505 head unit but it seems to have survived. It was OK on smooth roads but wobbled a bit on the bumpy parts. I put a zip lock bag over it when the heavy rain came on and added a couple of cable ties to stop the bag blowing off. The Tom Tom was very bad in sunshine, but I find it generally OK in a car. It displays a lot of useful info at one time. Pics show the installation that worked fine for 2 days.
ps - the battery is useless on this device. I suspect a dodgy charging connection as battery is still flat after a journey so the unit keeps switching off when you stop. I'm just grateful in runs OK when plugged in the car so it gets me places.
pps - yes the speed is 47mph, the cruise is on, the music is playing, the air temp is about 75 DegF, there were 82 miles to go and the bike clock is wrong but I couldn't figure out how to set it
