Recommend a timing strobe light please

Hi chaps I need a strobe too set up my r100 you Carnot buy the buggers anywhere in the shops,so I need too get online ,do you need a battery operated light ie one with its own power source ,not taken from the battery on the bike ?and were the heck do you find such a thing?

I flogged my Snap-On MT 1261A one on eBay recently and there were others on there too. Not cheap but they've got inductive pickup, built in tachometer and advance, etc. powered from vehicle battery. Best timing light I used in 30 years. I'll probably end up buying another one!

Agree on the Snap On strobe light. It can also be run off a slave 12v battery.

thanks guys ,i borrowed one from a mate today and ran it from a slave battery ,looks like my bean can may be shot bugger !

In which case the Emerald Island ignition system as marketed by Motorworks as their system (and by many others with their own logo's on) is quite a good alternative...............just a little more than a second hand bean can and with an electronic advance curve, works well on both my 1000cc R80's.

Thanks very much ,I think it's the way forward ,my bean can is on full advance the timing s mark was just showing up as retarded I
As I don't know when it was last run I thought I would give it a good spray with wd40 with the motor running, then I cleaned any wd40 out of the can restarted and it had got worse the s would not come into the window ,I'm guessing the springs or something is shot.
Do you adjust the emerald island ignition in the same way ?
