Does anyone know a suitable good performance wireless router (for my parents).
They are puchasing 2x asus laptops (A6Jc-Q006H) with wireless LAN (Intel 3945ABG).

What do they need so they can both use their computers at the same time to access t`internet?

They are not gamers but do a fair bit of browsing and will need some means of printing wirelessly if possible.

Someone has recommended Belkin, Netgear and Linksys. They use Tiscali 2mb broadband.

They would like something reasonably "future - proof" and have a budget of about £100.00.

Any advice would be most welcome

Many thanks in advance

If they intend to print wirelessly, they'll need a router which supports a print server facility.

They may find something suitable HERE. They'll also need a suitable printer which can be used to print via a wireless print server.

Cable or BT based i have a brand new netgear one i dont need you could have for a fair price.

Tiscali: so BT based and probably with a Speedtouch frog, USB only modem. They'll need to bin the frog and get a router with a built in ADSL modem.

"Safecom 125/54Mbps 4 Port Wireless ADSL Modem Router With Print Server"

I don't know anything about this particular device but it seems to do everything they want for a very good price of £53 inc P&P. Service from Savastore is excellent and I trust the customer reviews on the site.

I've been using the same router (but without the print server ) for the last 2 years and have been very pleased with it. :)

This is why I love this site - help is never far away. Thanks guys, this is all new to me but you have been a great help :thumb

Netgear all the way and don't waste your money on the rangemax stuff it's the stuff of fairytale stories. Instead get yourself a standard DG834 and rejoice at how simple it is to install and configure.

Only go neat Linksys if you have a VERY good idea of what you are doing, it is a Labyrinth of configuration options destined to confuse at 20 paces.

Does the netgear DG834 do the wireless printing thingy?

Not directly but has the printer been purchased yet? If not then if you buy any network ready printer (mono laser £80, colour laser £200) then wire that to the router then Robert's your dads' brother' 'wireless printing' :thumb

If it has been purchased already then a wireless printer server from Belkin (£70) will do the job, so long as it is all 802.11g (Wireless G) all will be well.

Just for information. The netgear DG834GT and the Safecom SWAMRU-54108 use the same chipsets afaik, the Safecom is quite a bit cheaper though and the setup is easy too
As usual, you pays yer money.......... :)

I agree with most of you
I have not had much success with netgear, they seem to crash alot but its not a problem if you know how to reset them

I use safecom with a built in asdl modem and have not had a problem

if they use aol they will have to go to a gold package to both be on at the same time

and if they are on a bt line make sure you get a asdl modem router
and make sure you set the security on the wireless or all the neighbours will be able to connect to them

Actually, this isn't true at all....

AOL use this argument simply to 'sell' AOL Gold, which is alleged to support multiple 'screen' ID's on a router. But ANY AOL package will allow a number of users to share the BB connection, though not necesarily using AOL software...you could simply use any browser of your choice and Outlook express for mail or some other mailer.
