Hi guys!!

Which one to buy? good price and the right size to be kept underneath of a LC seat...

It might be a silly question but.... has anyone experienced any problems with the pressure sensors after fixing a puncture??

Thanks!!1:thumb2

+1 for stop and go. Had a puncture in the alps, fixed it with my stop and go rode another 2,000 miles without losing 1 psi :thumb

Stop n Go get's my vote. Only found about them since being on UKGser, now have one in the bike toolbox and one in the car.

Stop n go works... Got a rear pucture while 2 up miles from home... Never used the kit before so needed the instructions in the pack... 20 mins later ( with the help of my compressor) we were moving again. :thumb2

Yep - used stop 'n go several times now and it's never failed. (unlike the cheap do-nut rubber / glue contraptions that are bloody useless). I still have a stop 'n go plug in one of my car tyres from about four months ago ...

Under yer seat with a baby compressor and for get about it .... :thumb2

Another Stop n Go fan here. Used it a couple of times in anger and it's always worked a treat. The only thing I added to the kit was a tiny pair of cheap needle nose pliers, which are handy for extracting nails and screws from your tyre before you set to work.

Stop and go kits are OK, but limited in what they can fix.

Rat tail type plugs are better in many ways, will fix far more extreme punctures if necessary and although they need a little more intelligence to use, it's no coincidence that you'll find them in most RTW 4x4 and bike kits than any trendy, expensive branded kit.

I've tried several different types of kits and the only type I carry now are based around Rat tails.

Used stop & go, worked ok never used rats tails, what's the difference?

IME, rat tails will fill a far larger and far more irregular hole than a stop and go type plug.

S&G plugs are circular on the base, so they potentially don't work on oval or extended holes like you get in the real world with a nail that's been ridden on for a while, pounded sideways by repeated hits on the road.

You'd be lucky to put more than 1 S&G type mushroom into a larger hole, but I've had up to 4 in one repair that I've done.......Steptoe claims 6 in one of his and I can believe that.

I also once (and only once) used a rat tail to successfully seal a tyre bead on a dinged rim, and I've used them many times on big chunky AT and MT 4x4 tyres using exactly the same kit.

The next bit is purely conjecture, but an S&G 'gun' is a mechanical device with moving parts......will it survive 5 years rattling around in the bottom of a pannier until when you need it?
Rat tails just need an open eyed needle, although it's far better to have a reamer and often, some vulcanized rubber glue (30p a tube sealed, one use then bin or buy bigger and seal properly- I have tubes that are 8 years old and still liquid)

I'd rather have a stop'n'go kit than nothing, but I'd bet money that I could fix more, better and for longer with my rat tail kit.

EDIT......I've also seen rat tails on sale across West Africa and Eastern Europe, so they seem to be a pretty generic product.....I suspect (though I don't know) that a Stop and Go plug is purely a proprietary plug design....I know my kit and experience will work anywhewre I can get a 'rat tail', but could you buy extra S&G plugs as widely?

Thanks for that !!!! Very informative. I'll get some.

If you decide to go for rat tail type kit, the most critical part is the open eyed needle.....I'd suggest a T bar type, as the straight barrel ones (think screwdriver with open eye needle instead of a flat/cross bladed end) can be bloody tough to push through a hole in the middle of a chunky knobble block.

2nd bit, a reamer......you can get T bar handles with interchangeable open eye needles and reamer bits, and my nice one had a hollow handle T piece that held both types inside (some fucker on one of my tours nicked it )

In my bike kit now, I have an old, fairly coarse, round section needle file that I use as a reamer.......that works well...although it's not entirely essential to ream a puncture wound, it does tough up the rubber and make for a better surface both in the hole well and on the inside of the carcass for the rat tail/glue to bind and seal into)

You can get very cost effective kits on ebay, but have a good look........I just had a peruse and found exactly the same rat tail kits in a box but varying in price from 8 quid to fekking 60 quid!

Rather than going straight to ebay though, have a look on Google for tyre repair supplies...you may well find a proper quality reamer/needle combo......then PM me and I'll post you some rat tails ( I bought many hundreds in a big box ages ago to use in Morocco)
