I'm looking to buy a laptop, not necessarily top spec, but want to use it for video editing so looking for a dual core processor, with 2 gigs of ram, and a fire wire port for transfer from the camcorder. Has anyone seen any good bargains out there? I've had a look around, but nothing seems to leap out at me. I'd be very grateful for any advice.

Dell factory outlet.
I helped my daughter buy one last week. They were offering £50 off and free delivery (I suspect that the list price reflected this.)
Good spec and hers for £410 compared to over £600 from the Dell site.

3 Gig of RAM 320 hd, dual core processor, built in web cam, blue! etc etc
This was the best we could find.
Keep looking in at the site, think its updated every 15 mins.

best thing is to stick to well establish brands
Asus
Acer
Toshiba
HP
Sony

etc

If video editing is your thing then look for something that has a dedicated graphics card with a good amount of ram. I hate to say it as I am a windows man but macs have a good reputation for video editing, but the cost of the machine and the software to go with it is eye watering compared to a windows pc. Have a good look at reviews by the computer press on their web sites, try PCPRO they have a good online review section. From a personal view Asus and Acer are both good, Sony are normaly very good as well keep in mind they invented 4pin firewire so most of their machines have it as standard where as others may not.
I would steer clear of "buisness" machines they are designed for different use and whilst very good they probably wont be as useful for editing if that is your prime use. To honest though ANY desktop will be half the price for the same spec and far better for video editing, with better graphics cards etc.
