Having spent some time researching the subject tonight I'm getting increasingly confused/annoyed!

I want a simple UPS to run a PC and maybe a printer for at least 30 minutes if and when the mains power goes down. I don't need any fancy displays, blue LED's or multiple outlets. It needs to be quiet, have only one (or maybe two) 13amp socket outlets and maybe a USB and RJ45 LAN socket. I know they will all come with other fail-safes.

I'd welcome recommendations please.:comfort

i have an APC pro 900 - works a treat. does a soft shut down of my mac as it runs out of juice :)

i cant say if it will last 30 mins, but it's in that ball park & it does have a blue LCD display.

i have a smaller one running the router and modem so i can still connect during power outages, but i can't see the model number without shifting a load of stuff.

As long as it has enough runtime to shutdown your system cleanly, that's all a ups needs to do. APC are good.

Without knowing why you want this, why not use a laptop. Once charged, you'll have hours of battery life.

I realise I'm stating the obvious, but someone had to.

by the way, how often do you have a power cut that you need a UPS?

I agree with the laptop -

However - reading reports of UK elec supply/demand - I think all of us need to consider options...

i had one two days ago. it was only a couple of seconds, but would have crashed my iMac. as it was, the only way i knew it happened is because i heard the UPS click and a message came up on the screen :)

laptops are hopeless for actually getting anything done on compared top a desktop IME.

Living in the arse-end of nowhere means power cuts are not infrequent. We seem to have had a run of them these last few months.

Having forked out a f$@king fortune for an iMac I'm not about to go out and buy a laptop! I don't need a laptop - a tablet does eveything I need when I'm on the move.
