and this as well...
New wireless router.
I don't know if it's the router that's at fault or the line.
I am currently swapping between two routers at the moment - one will work fine for a while then speeds will drop to the point of uselessness. I'm also swapping between 'phone sockets which gives similar results so I don't know if I've got an intermittent line fault or two faulty routers or maybe it's the computer that's at fault. :nenau
Any suggestions?

is it ADSL (BT, talkltalk etc.) or virgin. How long have you been up and running on broadband (is it less than 30 days)?

My BT broadband seems to have "issues" from time to time where I can't access e-mails etc on wireless, but is ok using the cable. And then other times it's 100%.

Tried the cable from the router if you're on wireless, or a new cable if you're wired in, IYSWIM. Or if someone has a laptop to plug in / wireless into your system?

I'm on BT Broadband and I have exactly the same problem as described above... :augie

No idea why, when it's really bad I just plug in the Ethernet cable and use that instead.

But it really should be better...

Had me thinking I was going crazy, or had downloaded some malware / virus. Glad it's not just me :comfort

or isit the dsl filters at fault. had similar symptoms when i forgot a filter on one of the phone extensions :blast

Left it unplugged overnight, look at it now:

I can't seem to get the wired router to work anymore. :nenau
In fairness it took me a couple of hours fannying about to get it working to start with and then it was more by luck than judgement. :banghead:

Have had similar problems since Christmas.

Poor signal with pages not downloading fully, then no signal at all etc.

BT line then Fasthosts.

Even thinking of signing with BT for internet too but don't expect an improvement.

BT say it's not the line, Fasthosts say it's not them. Thought maybe the problem was a virus, but no. Daughter's laptop had the same problem.

I don't believe BT for a minute - their vans have been up and down the lane almost everyday but BT still deny any problem.

you need to determine if the "fault" is inside or outside......

go to your main socket (it looks like it splits horizontally in the middle), unscrew the face plate, behind this plate, you will see a socket inside.....with me so far? :comfort

plug your router into this socket and try 2 different dsl filters (to eliminate a DSL filter as the fault) and see if this solves the problem. Also try resetting your router, if no difference in the signal

if the fault stays then the fault is with the Openreach network (the line from the exchange to your socket), ring your service provider and raise a fault with the broadband circuit, Openreach call it an LLU SFI report code.

if the fault disappears then the fault is somewhere inside your house, then its just a process of elimination unplug all pieces of kit (phones, ext's, sky boxes etc.) then start the process of elimination.

NB: maybe worth taking note of when the faults start e.g is it about 17:00 every night etc.... is it the same time a security light comes on etc.. it has been known that a REIN condition can disrupt your signal (random frequencies from other electrical equipment that are induced on to the circuit causing the broadband signal to be distorted which makes throughput slower)

Hope this helps........

Thanks Jailon. It seems to be an intermittant fault that I haven't been able to replicate.
I'm going to have to get another filter and systematically work through. :(

Just a mention.

Just thought I would mention:

If you buy a remote control lighting set from B & Q, they work on the same frequency as WIFI, & when I tried them, they wouldn't work in my house if router was switched on. WiFI speed also collapsed at same time.

Left them back, & sales confirmed there was a problem with them & WIFI.
Checked make & bought an alternative make off ebay which worked perfectly.

Way out! I have done absolutely nothing, not so much as switched a light on or changed channel on the TV and it has suddenly gone from a download speed of about 0.26Mb/s to
