Hi, its time I got some waterproof gloves..

I got bloody drenched this morning and have had enough of trying to use my sports gloves. I'm not looking forward to putting my sodden gloves back on to ride home.

It's been a while since I commuted by bike, so I'm completely out of touch as to what brands, and models are any good. I've searched here and Rukka seem to be the bees knees, but they are quite spenny.

I don't want to spend more than £80 if I can help it, but the gloves have to be really waterproof.

If I need to spend a wee bit more to get "good" gloves, then I can.

Thanks

BMW Summer Rain

or Pro Summer whatever they are called now.

Excellent gloves always dry.

Highly recommended.

cheers

Take yer pick from any Goretex glove at somewhere like Hein Gerrik.

They will come with a guarantee and if they leak HG will replace them for you. :thumb

I acquired a pair of Spada Enforcer WP gloves recently. I believe they retail at c. £60. I rode 70 miles in rain of Bibilical intensity last week and my hands remained dry.

Give them a chance, mine were waterproof when they were new too, it won't last! i've had 3 pairs, 1st set bought cos they were ride recomended(when will i learn), they leaked, well isay leaked, more like they imbibed the water tell they were full, 2nd pair i got (thought i had a first duff pair, and how could ride be wrong, when will i learn:blast) they wern't water proof after a month or two either, they got stolen with me lid, so my girlfriend gave me her pair two use, pracically brand new, and they soaked up the water too, so i recommend pay more, specially if your commuting as they should last you,and you won't regret it. or muffs......

We'll see - I treated them with Nikwax Glove Proof while the leather was still wet so they should be fairly well saturated with wax now.

There are gloves that are waterproof but are so bulky that they are not useable.

There are gloves that say they are waterproof but make your hands sweat so much that they would be better off being porous.

There are gloves that are not too thick, are waterproof and that are breathable, but they only last 3 months before they are none of the above.

Don't fuck about trying to find the holy grail....it doesn't exist.

Give up your pride, fit a pair of muffs and find out what it's like to have warm hands, totally dry, wearing your favourite summer gloves and not worrying about it.......some of the fashionistas who think that function should follow form and looks are more important than performance might snigger at you and say your muffs are ugly, but those are the ones who usually use their Audi to drive to work if there's the remotest chance of rain for more than an few hours, or if the temperature drops below 5 degrees.

Get your hands up into a nice furry pair of muffs and be happy :comfort

On me second pair of Spidi's, lined with something called H2Out.

The first pair wore out after many years, but never let the water in. The second pair I've had for a couple of years.

Mind you. I'm not often out in a downpour...

Klim Powercross.

Definitely recommend these :thumb

For me they are pretty much perfect - not huge great big gauntlets, slightly shorter so easily fit under jacket cuffs, goretex, a decent insulation level so good in winter, Pittards leather palm, etc,etc - not at the top of the list if you want lots of armour...........

But obviously most important - I got them to match my riding kit :D

Goretex makes absolutly no sense for motorcycle gloves, its just a marketing con.

Lots of cheap fabrics are waterproof, why on earth would you need breathable gloves? Most of these have a goretex inner liner which means the whole glove gets wet and cold - how are you better off than with wet hands?

The water will evporate and make the glove (and your hand) as cold as it it were wet all the way through.

Your hand is generating next to no heat so the breathability of the goretex won't work, if you put your heated grips on then you'll likely drive the water vapor into rather than out of the glove.

Got to admire the marketing guys who have convinced us that a goretex liner is of any value at all on a bike.:blast
