Well after my disaster of last night of shearing off the locating bolt for the rear suspension I'm looking for a competent garage/mechanic who can help a man with two left thumbs and no idea about these airheads.

I want to repair the paralever bolt, and set up the front end with a 320mm front disc, respring the front forks, check the head races and do a full service and give me an appraisal of the bike and what needs doing longterm?

I can deliver the bike or there's an empty garage here to work on it, I'm happy to work along side someone and learn the ropes, any takers or recommendations.

I've done the same as you previously...I managed to strip the threads on the lower mounting bolt... soak it in penetrating oil and I think I mashed an old socket head onto the stub then applied a bit elbow and it comes out. Got a second hand one from bins or motworks and screwed it back in ...not the end of the world... don't know about the front end stuff you mention.

heat the bugger over 100 degrees and that should help break the thread lock and crap thats backed up in there and unscrew with mole grips

OR weld an old socket over the stub do a fair bit of welding rather than a tack and you will put lots of heat through the steel into the alloy that way and unscrew

IF at first it does not go easy Give the bolt part a couple of direct sharp raps with a hammer directly down the centreline into the final drive NOT forwards backwards or up or down

Thanks for your reply, can you remember which way it turns to get it out?

I'm having trouble sourcing a new one so where's the best place for breakers parts?

Bolt

Chili..

Righty tighty, lefty loosy....!

Can you get the shock undone at the top, and then remove from the bike?.
If you can , then use releasing spray (plusgas etc...NOT WD40)... leave overnight... add more releasing spray...
leave overnight....then heat... and should come off with a good set of molegrips.

For spares; Links from this site to: Motorworks :thumb2
Motobins
James Sherlocks.....

all the above should be able to assist with a new bolt, it your local BWM dealer doesnt have one in stock.

Good luck. Ride safe
