SWMBO and I have now booked and paid for the ferry to Santander from Plymouth in July.:clap

Can't wait as it's our first time to Spain on the bike.

We have no real plan or route expect that we would like to see Picos, central/western Spain, Salamanca and possibly further south.

What I am looking for please folks is any good campsites that you have used as we are camping the entire trip.

Cheers
Richard

Castrojeriz Camping.
Quiet campsite, spotlessly clean, nice cold bottled beer.....etc.
The town is World Heritage status......very interesting place.

Is a pretty good guide for Spain. I haven't stayed in many bad ones in Spain to be honest. There's one in Salamanca to the north of the town that's pretty good. Segovia's nice, campsite there's just on the outskirts. Burgos, again, quite a good one there just by the river. If you're down on the coast then lloret de mar, tosser del mar, salou, xabia, Marbella, all good places to stay.
Enjoy.

Timpo, Mark and Pedro...

Many thanks for your input folks.:thumb:thumb

Its very much appreciated.

I'll let you all know how we get on and pass on a list of worth while camp sites...

http://www.campinganeto.com

The first two sites were the ones we used on the way down through the pyrenees, they were great, Asolaze was run by a Dutch lady, we had the top site to ourselves, sat outside the tent at night just being blown away by the night skies, good price to, the second was a bit more commercial, but Benasque is a really nice little town, the last place (we'll miss out some of the duff ones) was right across the road from the beach, but really great, quiet beach, great little shop, and we met some other bikers there.
pay for seven and you get ten nights for the price. clean pool, a good clean site.

Have ridden Spain a couple of times, last was in 2011, and still say it was one of our best holidays, we stopped at this little hotel http://www.hotellosdocelinajes.com last year, as I had been there in 2007 with some mates, the owner remembered me, he plied us with cold San Miguel, fed us well, and we all watched Real Madrid play Barcelona and drunk Spanish Brandy! and like in 07, gave us a bottle of wine in the morning as a gift, its just above Soria.
I hope you have a great time, the holiday will start on the ship! and if you want a great nosh, grab a table early in the Piano restaurant, its not madly expensive, but it is a nice way to start the holiday, have a good one.

Richard,

Camping El Sur, Ronda (www.elsur.com).

Clean site, decent bar/restaurant and not expensive.

Great views of Ronda from the upper southern terraces of the camp site, which is about a 25 min walk away.

La Isla Picos De Europa, about 65 miles from Santander just outside Potes , we have stayed here many times and its a cracking site. Also Camping Regio on the outskirts of Salamanca , one our favourites , theres a friendly little bar and the pool is great , plus the bus stops at the campsite if you want to go into Salamanca (10 journey). Me and my mate will be on the 17.00 ferry on 5th july so depending when your going we may see you on route. Ps the Regio site is the annual stopover for the BSH crowd on there way to and from the Faro rally, but theres plenty of room and its always a good night in the bar.:beerjug: PPS depending where your headig to i can recomend more sites around Merida,Cordoba, Malaga and Toledo, have a good trip.:thumb2

Got back last Friday (trip report to follow at some point). I didn't use all the sites listed but of those that I did can recommend:

http://www.campingalbarracin.com/
http://campingmonfrague.es/
http://www.campingelastral.es/
http://www.campingperlora.com/

As it was still low season some of the site facilities were not open but then again it was no problem finding a pitch. My tent is a Vango Spectre 200, nice and lightweight (alloy pole & pegs) but then you can run into problems with hard ground which I nearly did with at http://www.campingdespenaperros.com/ but fortunately a Dutch fella lent me some steel pegs. Just make sure you have a mix of both.

Have a good trip :thumb2

If you're camping, watch out for snakes.

In northern Spain watch out for bears too.
