Hi all together!

My name ist Jörg, and i come from Germany. I´am living in Kassel in the middle of Germany. My english is totaly out of practise, sorry for that at first.

My first contact with your country i had in the 80ies, when i visited a penfriend in Leicester for some weeks twice. After that visit i travled around in Cornwall and York (highmoores, Rosedale Abby for example) with my parents, wich came over to pick me up.

In 1994 i drove to scottland by motorbike during study-vacations and visited Yorkshire and the lovley campside there again on my way back.

In 2006 me and my wife had a lovley motorbiketrip through Ireland and Northireland.

I love UK, the habitants and your way of life, so me and my wife deside to visit England by motorbike next year again. We want to go to Cornwall, Wales, and when the time allowes, mabe further on to Lake District.

Therefor, especially for South England, Devon, Cornwall and Wales, i would like to ask for some recommendations:

Do you have some "must have seen", some "must have driven", maybe even some gps-tracks for me? Could you recommend some places to stay more then one night (basiscamp), wich are predestinated to explore the area/region in different/more directions. We prefer not to move on every day, so we can leave luggage at home and come back for the night. It would be perfekt to stay 2 or 3 nights in one place/B&B. Other references?

Probably we can stay in england for about max. 14 days. We expect to arrive in Dover and have to go back there in the end again. As an old friend of scooters and Quadrophenia, i decide to travel via Brighton and see some nice places south-england too. I think, the time last max. for Cornwalland Wales. Lake District will be to much, in my opinion. What do you think?

Thank you a lot for your ideas!

Greetings

Jörg

Welcome Jörg :thumb

Good to see you on here. You seem to have a rather ambitious itinerary there so maybe suggest you save something for another trip.

First suggestion might be to pay up your subs so that people can send you personal messages maybe.

When do you intend to land at Dover? Is it fixed yet?

Maybe attend one of the UKGSer events in an area that you want to visit? You'll see places then that most if us wouldn't see :aidan

If we know when you're coming I'm sure some of the brethren on here might meet up with you for a couple of days, I will for sure, if available :thumb

Your question as to Wales? I would suggest The Lion Hotel at Llanbister, central for two or three days of excellent touring in magnificent scenery :thumb
It's not three star, not even two star, but very homely and a warm welcome ... it's like a time warp back to the 1950's

Your English, by the way, is excellent

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Hi Micky!

Thanks for your pleasant answer! The landing-day is not even fixed, but we deside to travel the second have of may.

What does it mean, "to pay up subs"? Do i have to be a paying user, to be able to get personal messages?

O.K., i think you are right, anyway lake district is surely to much

If you look Jörg your user name is in red. If you look at the top bar, click here to subscribe, and follow through.

When paid up you'll be in the black :thumb

It allows you to parts of this great forum than none subscribers can reach. You can send personal messages, post 'wanted' and advertise stuff for sale, post photographs etc. if and when you tell us all about your trip you can do us a Ride Report with piccies :D

If you can send personal messages you can keep in touch with someone without having to post and bore the pants off everyone with a simple thing like trying to meet up

Let us all know when your coming ...

Hi Jörg

What sort of things would you like to see or do in Wales, off road on road, camping hotel?

I live in Wales near the Brecon Beacons national park. I am organising an event mid June near Fishguard, that time of year can be very nice.

Hi Jorg,
Welcome to the site, moto B&B makes a great base for ride outs, it is located in mid Wales and run by a fellow GSer and round the world traveller, Rik has great knowledge of routes in the area and will assist in route planning I am sure, if I am available at the time of your visit I would be happy to meet up and show you some great routes in South Wales and beyond, good luck with your trip :thumb2

+1 on that recommendation.

second recommendation

I too highly recommend Moto BnB. Rik runs a very clean and welcoming B&B in the middle of Wales. It is smack bang in the middle and a few miles from "civilization" but that is its beauty. Rik will also give you all the advice you need on local roads depending on your riding preference.
It was our first trip to Wales this year, and we will definitely be back.

At first: Happy New Year @ all!

And much thanks for the answers! I will mark all your places and ways in my map and will see, if i could take it in my route.

When i know the date, we`ll arrive, i will let know you, maybe you find the time, to drive some miles with us.

...Brian

We will ride on road. We want to see much as possible of landscape, people and the best roads for motoriding. We like to stop and observe the people an way of living, also in pubs and other places where typical living is to join. Normally we try to avoid the bigger citys, when we are on road with the motorbike. Probably we will sleep in B&B.

That looks good!

Greetings for now! Surely i will be back with more questions, when i studied the guide and map.

Greetings!

Gower S. Wales

I am near the Gower (Pretty coastel area) near Swansea if you come near here and its possible I would show you round if you like. Perhaps post more details when your plans are finalized.

Gruss Gott J

I live about 15k from Cardiff and would be happy to show you some great roads if I am free when you are here.

If you subscribe and give me an e-mail address I can send you some good garmin files - they are 3Mb in size so too big for this medium.

If you look at the website of "ride" magazine http://www.ride.co.uk/Routes/

you will see that there are some garmin routes for Wales - they also have a British 8 - a great route around Britain which can just be done in 4 days.

Your only problem is the weather here - once you are North of Merthyr Tydfil it does not matter which road you take! They are all great biking roads.

auf Wiedersehen
