Can anyone tell me whether BMW still recommend Castrol Actevo GP 4T 20W-50 for the 1200 GS?

If not what is now the recommended oil?

Thanks in advance

OMG!!!:blast

Before you get too carried away with the recriminations, this is my first BM, and I am still waiting for the owners manual from the dealers. So just a straightforward answer to a straightforward question would be appreciated

Go to http://www.bmw-motorrad.dk/dk/da/index.html

Click Service

Click Danish equivalent of "Download manual".

Select English version of manual.

Open up PDF version of English manual.

Should do you while you wait for yours.

In the meantime, lifted from the book:

Engine oil, capacity max 4.0 l, with filter change

Lubricant Engine oil, 20W-50

Engine oil, quantity for topping up max 0.5 l, Difference between MIN and MAX

Oil grades Engine oils of API classification SF or better.

Engine oils of ACEA classification A2 or better.

BMW Motorrad recommends not using synthetic oils for the first 10,000 km.

Please do not hesitate to contact your authorised BMW Motorrad dealer if you have any questions relating the choice of a suitable engine oil for your
motorcycle.

You`ve stumbled across the one question guaranteed to wind the feck out of everyone:blast Use the search facility and hit what oil and you`ll see what I mean;) It`s just a good job Tarka hasn`t seen it:eek:

Basically, it`s a tractor engine and as the gearbox is seperate, you don`t need motorcycle specific oil so any 20/50 will do to be honest.

Mineral for the first 12 to 15,000 then semi synthetic.

Best option if you are worried is look at the manual on Wappings link or give a dealer a quick call in the morning:thumb
