Looking to replace tyres on my LC GS in preparation for a trip to Morocco. It's a road tour so not expecting any serious offroad but anticipate some gravel / unsurfaced type roads during the trip.

I've got the Michelin Anakee fitted at the moment, which I can't really fault but interested in seeing if there are any other recommendations. My bike has done about 3.5K on these tyres and anticipate these tyres will be done by 4 - 4.5K.

Also as an aside, has anyone tried regular road tyres (like Pilot 3's) on a GS - assuming these would be far better for everyday road riding?:beerjug:

Cheers

Jallani,

I'm looking forward to getting more road only orientated tyres too but don’t believe there is anything out yet above what comes as stock OEM fitment. I’m on Anakee’s too and they are fine though I’ve not had a chance to play with them in the wet. I’m waiting to hear Pilot Road 3’s (though PR2’s are plenty adequate IMHO) are available at which point I’ll throw those on when the Anakee’s are done.

I have the Tourance Next on mine, and will be moving to the Anakee3 when I change them next month.

will give them a go

Conti Trail Attacks ... brilliant

Tourance Next crap ...

IMHO

I have the Next on mine and picked up a puncture, ive seen a few on here have also got punctures with them, and this is on road so not too good for a dual purpose tyre.
Grip and handling is great though, but I think I shall be giving the Conti trail attacks a go.

cheers Terry:beerjug:

I'm one of the unlucky ones to have had a puncture (split pin in a tread groove) in my Next rear, the day before setting off on a tour to France!
Got a red puncture warning light at 2.1 bar 30 psi I think, carefully rode it to a garage & inflated it slightly above norm.
Having the tyre pressure monitoring was very re-assuring, fortunately it only lost approx 0.4 bar 6 psi riding from Runswick Bay on the East Coast to Alan Jeffries, Baildon (85 miles) who managed to fit me a new one 3/4s of an hour before closing!
Actually had a plugging kit & compressor with me at time of discovery but for piece of mind decided a new tyre would be a safer bet.
I've now done 3k miles on mine & think they are pretty good.
Can we really blame a particular tyre on being puncture prone?

Conti TA 2

I've just got back from a blast through the Picos mountains in Spain then onto Andorra then back up through France, we did some long days on fabulous roads and the tyres were great. It's the first time I've had them and I'm converted. 1500 miles in 4 days and they are showing very little wear. :clap

Tourance next

I have only done about 2,600 miles but have noticed them squaring off a little,, mostly after a Blast to Germany/France but understand the early launch tyre has now been modified with a harder central compound..

The tyre was great in wet and dry and the only time I thought it didn't inspre confidence was after a long day riding and then Blasting Along the B500 chasing a mate on his ZX10,, they moved around somewhat..:bounce1

Thinking I will wait and read reviews of posts before deciding,, but like the dual purpose concept..

the roads around me are like Morocco !:thumb

Most of my riding is on the road (90%). What are the TA's like on the road?

Great as a road tyre , can be pushed into corners hard , as for wear unsure as made the mistake of putting the Next on for our trip to Italy. Just cant get on with the next.
TA done 2000 miles and will be putting them back on my bike.
I will have a Next front with 1800 miles on for sale soon as I will not need them as I had to replace one after 700 miles !!!!!!!!

Anakee 2, Anakee 3, Conti Trail Attack...

Great picture. :thumb

From that alone, can the Conti's be considered the most road biased?

The Conti certainly appears to have more rubber in contact when upright would this suggest more mileage potential in touring mode?

Still dont understand tyres for "adventure bikes"... they put quite a big tread pattern in, which

a:) is supposed to be good offroad
b:) is supposed to offer better tarmac performance than a proper offroad tyre

They are a compromise between the an offroad and road tyre that you have to live with all the time.

I'm a road warrior... Now and then I might have to drive up a gravel driveway. I don't want to compromise the performance on 99% of my riding for the 1% of the time I'm not on tarmac..

If I got my kicks riding offroad I'd get a big blocky proper offroad tyre, and put up with it during the times I'm on tarmac..

I've had Dunlop Roadsmart 2's on for the last 4000 miles, with a tour round Europe on them... they were reet good... I went up a gravel drive the other day and didnt die.. I road across a field to a car park... I didn't get stuck...

Buy something that fits the purpose of the bike you are going to use for the marjoity of you're riding... Don't live with a compromise of an "adventure bike" tyre..
