Looking for a way out
The hard disk on my PC has died - and being a complete ****, I'm never bothered to back it up
I've fitted a new disk and installed windows XP etc and mounted the old disk as a slave.
Whilst it throwing the odd error, I can access it EXCEPT for my the documents under my username I get "access denied". I think it something to do with permissions, as I vaguely recall setting my account up so the kids counldn't access my files. Now I'm booting from a new install of Windows, I can't login with my old account.
I know the files are there, but how do I access them?

Help?

Jimbo.

It'll be something to do with the SID for the users in the access control lists on the directory. A new one will have been generated even if you are using the same name. The owner of the old dir and it's permissions won't match in your new registration db.

If you go into the permissions->advanced->owner tab and see a big long string as the owner instead of a recognisable user? Try taking ownership and see if you can then access the stuff.
