Red Warning Triangle

Even though I always let the bike go through the diagnoses sequence before I start the engine, every so often my red warning triangle stays on when I ride off.

There is no fault reported in the LCD panel below.

The only way to get rid of the light is to stop, turn ignition on and off and wait for the computer (must be running Windoze) to go through it's diagnostics, then start up.

It's bad enough having to wait through all this start up procedure, but even worse when you have to 'reboot' the bloody thing! (Still a great bike though :) )

Does this happen to anyone else?

Its happened to me also a couple of times,it only happened i think when i was sitting on the bike with my hand on the brake to stop rolling back on a slope,i was guessing this messes with the ritual of the computer start up sequence.

It's happened to me a couple of times too ... as you say, "rebooting" gets rid of the light.

I don't think it's a brake problem, as even with the red triangle showing (and no other warning lights on), the brakes worked fine.

There is an error condition you can create by turning on the ignition with the brake lever pulled, but the system sorts itself out as soon as you let go of the lever, as I remember.

Having said that - the manual does say that the correct procedure for starting when on a hill is:

put bike in gear
release brakes
turn on ignition
wait for start up bollox to complete
apply brake, engage neutral
start bike

or something like that :D

I had the same problem, read the manual, decided it was the brake check, and it hasn't recurred since I made sure not to touch the brakes before firing it up.

In the meantime all your mates have disappeared ....

It has happened to me on a hill, but it's happened not on a hill as well - like yesterday, when the rest of the group were filling up with petrol (due to their inferior fuel consumption) I waited patiently and turned on ignition in plenty of time.

What do you know, when we set off the red light's on so I have to stop (leading the group at the time) and do a reboot.

(Shouldn't have waited should I?):P

Yes but you're on the GS, you'll catch them up easily by the first series of bends :D

The red triangle comes on after the engine starts as the power is initially drawn from the battery (which creates the alert condition - red triangle) then the alternator takes over and the computer realises this and finally extinguishes the red triangle (i noticed the battery symbol quickly disappear from the infoscreen), this is what mine does anyway

yup, happens to me every now and then as well, but I've ridden off and after awhile the red triangle switches off, not sure why it behaves like this  , I don't touch the brakes during the bootup sequence ?

This has happened sevral times and it always needs a reboot to clear it. Most often happens when starting on an incline even though I think I follow the procedure in the manual and don't touch the brakes untill the pre-start checxks have finished. After that it's brakes on into neutral and start and it seems to be the act of starting with the brakes on that triggers it. Bloody annoying especially as it won't do it when I'm at the dealers.
