Hi, had bike serviced a month ago, and on way home, had the red warning triangle up on the display...just the triangle, no symbols below it.

Spoke with BMW assist, as have read here that they recovered bike for re-programming, but was advised that it was ONLY to do with rear brake/tail light and not to worry. Have changed the bulb, several times, and it was still there. Spoke to dealership who said that it could only be that. Swung through the bulbs and all were good. No corrosion either.

So bike booked in to check it, and had a new ABS control unit fitted as that is what the diagnostics showed up. And you knows it..the light came on again.

The warning light is totally random. Was out on the bike yesterday, 100 miles, no light. Just popped round to mates, 13 miles, and light on all the time....any ideas??

You need to get that checked out again sorry..........I presume the modulator still runs when the light comes on?

I had the same problem with mine.

The dealer said don't ride it with a red warning triangle light showing.

BMW Assist said it was okay to ride, until I asked for a name in case it buggered anything up and affected the warranty.

I seem to remember that they re-programmed the system which seemed to fix it, or at least that's what they said they did.

I suspect it could be a build up of swarf/metallic fines on the rear ABS sensor inside the final drive, causing a loss of inductive rear wheel speed signal to the ABS computer. As the crownwheel and pinion wear slightly, any particles in the oil end up sticking to the inductive pickup for the ABS wheel speed sensor.

A fifteen minute job to undo the small torx retaining screw, whip out the sensor (magnetic) and wipe it clean/refit it.

Worth stripping out the rear lamp and cleaning the contacts whilst you are at it.

Adam, will be over early next week to use your driveway to have a fiddle...

Servo pump runs...but interestingly enough, it wasnt when it went in for its service a few weeks ago, but the problem developed only the previous day, and turned out to be the front brake lever microswitch that had degraded....this was replaced, and its probably just coincidence that the warning is now up...

Bike going in to dealers for as long as they need it next week...

Chris, sod the driveway its peeing down this week, use my garage (toolkit already on standby).

The fault could also be battery voltage related. Will test the terminal voltage and put your bike on the CTEK charger to fully top up your battery. Easy to clean the rear ABS sensor and check your tail/stop light and lamp holder. If that doesn't fix it, deffo a dealer job on the GT1 computer (which will probably show no fault codes).

mine did that twice. Both times brakes were gone. yep. gone. none. Once front and rear. Once only rear. Explanation I was given was that the computer sensed rear shoes were low, and, shut the whole system down. so, there you go. We have a system so complicated that if it senses any issue, you lose all brakes! German technology:blast

Adam, have stripped down rear light...no corrosion at all on the connectors, and took out the rear ads sensor, and as you can see from the picture, it had some metal stuck to it....so just need a spin out to check if the warning has cleared....
