Is there a trick to this? I've had the tank off to fit an autoswitch and relay in the space under the tank. When I come to refit the tank it won't move fully forward to allow the rear bolts to be fitted. It's out by about half the bolt width, lots of play vertically. I can't see anything fouling, and it seems to be pushed hard against the front rubbers. Is there a technique to refitting the tank? It's 3/4 full (great planning :blast) - could it have deformed slightly under the weight of the fuel?
Be greatful for any help or advice.

cheers, Spanner

Never a problem with my MK1 1200 empty or full so I can only suggest that you drain the tank into a container and try it when it's empty.

I had the exact same problem when I removed it to run some wiring and for the life of me couldnt get the dam thing to re-align, i took the tank of 5-6 times thinking I was doing something wrong, but still the distance to align it looked miles out and I thought it was fouling on something.

I started this thread >> http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225881

I even phoned BMW and they said I shouldn't have removed it !! :blagblah

It was a nightmare, in the end I had to get me brother to give me a hand and we used brute force to get it back on... shitty crap design I wont be ever taking it off again in a rush
