So world have turned and the ever wandering buying eye saw this... Now I've had mono RT's and even a Para R before but not an oldster heavy flywheel, twin shock job...
Been owned for a long time it seems by an old boy too old to keep going and it shows... Lovely condition and quite a few little upgrades... A nice big upgrade of post 80 forks n "proper" Brembo brakes...😀 I have the ATE version as spares...
All this started with reading about the Moto Pistons rally and it being pre 1980... And this a 79!
I am also a very longstanding informal member of the RT/RS preservation society and nearly had one in this colour 20+ years ago...
I feel this will develop and blossom as a relationship and will also probably cost ££ one way or another but I will enjoy spending.
My beautiful wife coughed when I showed her the photo but I did promise she wouldn't have to go pillion...😆 I said an old boy had it and she said and now an old boys bought it...! I'll get an old pipe and some suitable slippers but it probably won't get lit ...😀 The only pipes you hear about these days are crack pipes anyhow...
Deep joy...😊

PS I'd have put it in the RT section but I doubt they'd get it...🤣

Is that the ex Doctors bike that you had in your garage when I cam over to collect the R1150RT ?
Hi John, keeping well I hope. Yes it is the same bike, on the day I brought it home and following a quick wash, but photo's do flatter to deceive. Banged my head a couple of months ago and have had to relinquish my licence until March, so have been working on my R1100R and Enfield but will soon be returning my attention to the RT to get it sorted and roadworthy.

Hope you make a swift recovery , if you get bored with it you know where I am ;-)

Still the best fairing EVER on a motorcycle IMHO
:)

I'd love those forks and calipers on my Cafe Racer ( wondering if it's a straight fit ? )
I've seen it on a couple of bikes that I was interested in and after a side eye hunt for a pre 80 bike it certainly was an upgrade that caught my eye...
Plus I've such a soft spot for Airhead RT fairings I'm actually worried about myself...👍😂

really ? you need to get out more ,
i rode one in the rain , i got soaked ! absolute shite .
the vented front lets most of water past , and the lowers just swirl the air around getting the backs of your leg , as wet as the front !
the bottom half of the fairing , might just as well have not been there .

Rode one for 15 years...just my opinion. Great fairing. (y)

That made me 😂 I'll send a report when I get caught it the rain...😆

So 7 months on and I've sorted a few bits... Valve job by Mikeyboy, tick... Leaking carbs due to drowning floats... Replaced... Oil replaced X3... Engine oil was fresh, bevel overfull causing breather leak and gearbox overfull and changed as it looked old... I'm not sure how you can overfill the gearbox so had a surprise when it undid the filler...😆
New rear shock as Konis were a bit tired... Taller screen for lanky twat...👌
Then I learned a lesson re ponts and condensers... I had a trip to Shetland to see folk and dip into the classic car show and on the last ride before the ferry had the bright idea I'd rev it up a bit more and it cut out... Luckily it restarted and after a bit of a run I caught my ferry on time... Come the morning it wouldn't start and no spark... I estimated that I'd probably blown the condenser which was a good guess as Motobins supplied another and a spare set of points and another Bosch condenser... Now all good and running better than before so showing the lesson of fitting half decent bits...👌
As with many of these old busses it's a riding project and here's 🤞🤞 for a successful run down to Spain come September...😀
