I'm glad youre a cynic :thumb

I'm sure I'll go for a remap but i still find those figures hard to believe - give it some on the mountain the two bikes should be chalk and cheese :D

Everyones seeing a 30% improvement but people talk about 'smoothness' - id expect a lot more with those sort of figures. I'm still shocked that a bog standard 1200 only produced 80hp. My 1150 did more that that at the wheel and my 1200 feels a lot stronger :blagblah

the offer still stands ,come and see me or do you have another reason not to try it ???

Sorry for being a stick in the mud - moneys a bit tight at the moment so just want to be sure it's worth the outlay. Promise I'll buy you a beer when I finally make it over :beerjug:

:)

Bike certainly feels a bit better and for less than the price of a decent slip on end can, I'd certainly rather have the remap than not.

I appreciate my riding is a lot different from most GS owners, as ours are used more like sports bikes week in week out, with the odd trip only a few times a year.

However, for the simple fact the bike is so much nicer between 2,000 and 2,500 revs in 4th, 5th and 6th gears - I think I'd pay the money for that alone. The fact is may potential provide a whole lot more (fingers crossed) will be the icing on the cake. I don't expect to be able to out accelerate the Ducati Multistrada's etc. that we go out on rides with, but as I can out ride the majority of people round the track anyway, I think the upgraded mapping will come into its own :)

We haven't even done the roll ons and speed tests yet and there are already two more bikes here happy to book in and have the work done!

Well, a bit of traffic out tonight so no clear lap - but I managed to get out two up in any case. Pulls harder and accelerates a fair bit quicker than the MY08 bike - hit 120mph where I'd usually have been around 110mph - I'll still need to hit a clear run on the mountain mile - but as a standard DOHC can see the needle past 140mph there it isn't going to add much to the equation until we can can the standard bike and the remapped bike side by side.

The lap has however changed my mind on buying either a MY08 or a MY10 DOHC model based purely on whichever is the best priced - for my needs it would have to be the DOHC - for some reason the newer bike seems not only to go better but handles better and cornering a lot tighter. I am fairly convinced the front rear weight bias or central of gravity has changed between models. All that is not really needed to hauling loads two up, or crossing continents but for my weekend toy use it fits the bill better - also, I am getting better mpg from the DOHC.

Hi met you and your mate saturday ( sure your the same pair) after your drenching from your ride to Jeffs , glad the dyno went well as will get mine done soon , save up a bit as just had the Multistrada done . Cant recommend Hilltop more as the service and advice is excellent and the improvements made to my bike were fantastic.:thumb

Hi, yes indeed, it was good to meet you! The "mate" is my old man, he has the same bike but with the with lowered suspension.

The Ducati looked very nice - if the low speed throttle response is smoothed out (as well as my GS) then it must be like a completely new bike :)

We managed to avoid most of the rain but got a good couple of torrential downpours in over the weekend - the bike handled it all very well, although I;d have preferred my adventure screen - even the Sat Nav died before we got the Manchester lol!

Had my 2007 GSA sorted at Hilltop Motorcycles yesterday.

Geoff certainly seems to know his stuff and could tell you about it all day long! :blagblah

Before re-map After Re-map

BHP BHP
80 100

Torque Torque
60ftlb 75ftlb

that is a 25% increase!!!

Incredible improvement!! Didn't really get chance to unleash the extra horses on way home as it proper pissed down all the way! But did notice vast improvement in smoothness of engine, no flat spots. Engine felt more eager and low speed/revs much smoother, throttle crisper and no ''snatchiness''

Will be out for a few hundred miles this weekend. Will feedback results.

Top bloke, top job!!! :beerjug:

Very good - those figures look impressive!

The sun is shining, so I hope it continues for a few more weeks. We have the Manx GP very shortly, so I'll be out a lot round the course in between the races, hopefully showing a few sports bikes the way round ;)

ok cool  see ya soon have a good one

Hi Geoff ... Micky here. You did my G650Xcountry (Post 29) :thumb

At the time I had the standard exhaust on but with the Cat removed.

Now fitted a full Akropovic system to the 'bike, header pipe and road legal Titanium exhaust. Would this make much difference? It certainly feels better ;)
Is it worth sticking the 'bike back on the rollers?

Could give you a ring, and no doubt I will do, but I'm guessing others on here will be interested to know anyway.

All the best :thumb

I would assume any map would still work, but would benefit from being carried out after any mods, to ensure it took full advantage of the (expensive) modifications that have been made/added. At worst I guess a number of mods could adversely affect a map (or rather how the bike ran with a particular map)??

I'm having similar thoughts but in reverse. Having my 56 plate 1200GS mapped on Saturday. It currently has a full BOS system, no CAT. I was wondering what the implications would be should I put the standard CATTED system back on after the re-map. I'm guessing it would run a bit on the rich side.

I'll discuss with Geoff on Saturday and let you know his thoughts, unless of course he would like to post them here for the masses :)

No popping or backfire on overrun, I guess that means it is using the fuel more efficiently?

Dont understand graphs/charts, dont really know how things "work" but had my bike done at Hilltop on Friday and just know that it runs better, smoother & more of that torque thing.

Geoff began explaining things to me but my head hurt.

That so funny Neil ....
But must agree hilltop do a top job and I will be taking the hp for remap

Had mine done today. Now a different bike in an Ohhh so good way... Will post results when the wine has subsided! Top fella is Geoff, I'd have paid for the humour!

OK, Results as promised.

56 plate 1st gen 1200GS 15,000 miles

Before: 81.44 BHP at 7340rpm and 66.86 Torques at 6200rpm

After: 100.27BHP at 7100 rpm and 82.93 Torques at 5800 rpm

Results, the bike feels very different, tick-over is V smooth, compared to occasional hiccups, wasn't miss-firing as such, just sounded like poor fuelling. low to mid range now oh so smooth and will happily pull a much higher gear at low revs. I used to find myself avoiding certain speeds on motorway, usually between 80 - 90 always felt harsh and buzzy and I suffered from tingly hands, now it feels like a 4 cyl!

Above 5,000 used to feel asthmatic, now it pulls like a train to the rev limiter, quite astonishing really, feels like the front wheel is about to hoist! Geoff also lowered the rev limiter from 8,000 to 7,500 as he says it just not making more power now above 7,500 so there's no point stressing the engine.

Roll on roll off is transformed. Cornering is so much better without the jerkiness and engine braking is now very predictable rather than a bit on/off as it was.

Worth £330? Oh yes! When you consider you pay double that for an end can that does very little, typical, I now have both!!!!! Looking at other results on similar bikes, it does suggest that exhaust mods aren't worth the £££ apart from the weight saving. I have a full CATLESS BOS system and yet my results are no better, or even slightly lower than some running standard exhausts, only 1 or 2 BHP difference.

I'll leave the other 3 gents from our group discount day to post their results. But really nice to meet you all.

I think you would get some smoother delivery will a full system and remap compared to the standard set up and remap.

I would have preferred my rev limit to be left as high as possible too (well as high as standard) as I like to rev my bikes and hold a lower gear when corning, usually so I can accelerate out of them as fast as possible - although if the power drops off completely then I guess there is no point - but still I'd prefer the ability to rev another 500rpm or whatever it is.

I am hoping this mod will stop me buying another sports bike - but once I have sold a few of the bikes in the garage I guess it is almost a forgone conclusion. I'm just not sure what will feel as much fun as a sorted GS - maybe an 80's/90's sports bike :)

Poor old Geoff, he must be sick to death of doing GS's. :D

I'm booked in for tomorrow afternoon and I'm then at Rockingham on Wednesday. I'll post my results!
