Poor old Geoff, he must be sick to death of doing GS's. :D

I'm booked in for tomorrow afternoon and I'm then at Rockingham on Wednesday. I'll post my results!

Yeah, must be awful ;)

I would say there must be better results in terms of increases from the twins than the 4's for remaps - so in some ways, surely it is very rewarding sending all this more powerful GS's out on to the tarmac :) May even keep the rain of Geoff's head and keep him in food if enough owners have the work done too.

What time are you getting there Giles .... I'm there at 9.30am :thumb

Just wanting to run the Xcountry on the rollers again since fitting the full BMW Akrapovic exhaust

:beerjug:

Hey hey !!

I'm nights tonight :blast :blast (last one, don't normally do 'em but olympics and all that..).

I'm booked in for 2 - 2.30 ...

Nights?

Might hang on and see ya. I'm sure Geoff will sport us a coffee ;)

Can't hang about too much, need to get back for my dawg

:beerjug:

Ha ha ..

Ok, I'll try and get going as soon as I can. It'll take me about 2 1/2 hours so if I get up at 10.00 .....

PUT THE COFFEE ON !!!

Sorry I missed you Giles .... contrary to all expectations Geoff had finished with my 'bike just after 10am so headed for home. I would have been hanging about for a couple of hours or more at least ;)

'We' just put the Xcountry on to the rollers for a top gear roll through to check the fuelling. When I had the bike done back in February it was with the standard exhaust but with Cat removed Wanted to make sure the fuelling was still OK with the full BMW Akrapovic titanium system fitted .... it was :thumb

Power was down by one bhp

But the maximum power now occurred at about 7,500rpm as opposed to 8,350rpm back in February ... so good result methinks ;)

Torque was up by 3.5 ft/lb and was at 3,000rpm as opposed to 5,750 back in February ... so good result there too :thumb

The torque is a flat plateau of 35 to 36 ft/lb from 2,750 rpm to 6,000 rpm

It's a hoot to ride :thumb

Thanks Geoff :thumb

Apologies again Giles .... buy you a pint (pension funds permitting) when I see you

This remap sounds fantastic, but, not that its an issue, has anyone who has had this done now got some definitive feedback on fuel consumption / tank range post mod.

Got back from a trip down through France and Spain up and over and around the Pyrenees :-) The bike was fully loaded up with panniers and camping gear and it behaved brilliantly, it pulled like a train up the mountain roads.

I have recently had Geoff work his magic on my bike and I am still in ore of the improvements he has bestowed upon it. With regards to fuelling and tank range etc on the Autoroutes down I was getting about 46 mpg but i wasn't hanging around and as we all know the panniers add lots of drag thus knocking the fuel consumption.

However up and over the Pyrenees and down to the Costa Brava and back into France I was getting 54.5mpg and my brothers identical bike also remapped by Geoff was getting 55.5mpg, again his was fully ladened.

I have on average gained 5mpg more after the remap, as well as a much better performing bike to boot. At 54.5 mpg I had a tank range of over 400 miles so happy days. In all I completed 2400 miles and the bike never missed a beat or caused and problems. And more to the point it was the perfect bike for a great trip over fantastic roads and stunning scenery.

I can't recommend Geoff's remap's highly enough, the proof is in the pudding as they say.

Seems to me Micky your best win is max torque up by 3.5ftlb at 3,000rpm instead of 5,750, you can't beat low down pulling power :thumb

Can you tell much difference on the road?

...... just got back from a couple of days away which included an afternoon at Geoff's.

In a nut shell, the bike was making 80.7 bhp and 71.01 ft/lb and it now makes 105.6bhp and 81.78 ft/lb.

Worthy of note is that my fuelling was very very lean :eek My bike was way out of the optimum air / fuel ratio. This should be between 12.5 and 13.5 micro parts per oojimy wotsit thingy () but was infact up in the twenties at lower revs and for the rest of the rev range around the 15's and 16's. So definitely running far far too lean.

I've blagged the gasmans images of his bhp and torque through the gear box (which are pretty similar to mine...)

If you look at the first graph, see the pointy profile in each 'tooth' .. ?

The bike is only making it's max torque and bhp at the end of the rev range in each gear .. just as you change up. Hence the 45 degree line through each gear.

Look at the second graph - the teeth have a flat top and are much wider. The flat top shows that each gear is instantly making it's max bhp and torque, and the wider 'teeth' show that that spread of power and torque goes on for longer.

But that's all numbers and mathematics. How does it affect you on the road?
It's like the bike has been asthmatic, and now you've given it new lungs. The throttle is crisp and responsive. Little things like a blip between gears on a down shift, town work and filtering, trickling into a roundabout and driving out in third at low revs.

The throttle response and pick up is now just liquid nectar and a real joy to use. Remember the flat top graph through the gears - on the road that manifests itself as instant pick up and drive in a given gear - take the next gear and pin it ... instant crisp throttle response. :thumb2

Money very well spent - a huge improvement on the original. :clap

Giles what year is your bike ?

I have just booked my 2012 Plastic maggot (Rallye) in for Friday, looking forward to it :-)

Just thought I share my experience w hilltop. After reading very favourable reviews here about this remap I decided to go for it as well and after talking w Geoff I removed my ecu and send it to him w instructions on the bike's addons and my requirements with his only comment that he would not be able to quaranty the outcome as the bike was abroad. Well the final result from the seat of the pants is that the throttle response is much better, bike gives you the impression that you are always a gear lower in terms of acceleration, on - off throttle imputs much smoother, and loads of torque even from idle. No flat spots, no exhaust popping no fuel smells and more or less the same fuel consumption. The real plus is the way the bike exits hairpins. It just picks up and goes, no feathering the clutch, just smooth delivery. Overall very impressed. Its what BMW should have delivered from the beginning. Bike is a GSA 2007 decat with akrapovich.

Please let us know what you think. I fancy getting my Rallye done as I am getting a bit dissapointed with the fuelling on it.

What issue do you have with the fuelling? I never had much time on my twin cam before having the map done - but it is a lot stronger lower down the revs than my MY08 GS and even a pleasure on when on a short commute to work.

He Was Busy Today.

Got there for my 3.00pm appointment on the RT, only to find I had been usurped by two bloody GSA's.

Anyway, went from 86bhp to 103bhp and 73ft/lb to 82ft/lb.

On the usual congested roads it is hard to notice the difference, but given the chance to explore the upper regions it is like 6th gear has been lowered to that of 5th etc.

Like the two GS owners I was sceptical, but I'm confident that when you explore the upper reaches of the rev range along with wider throttle openings you will notice the difference - I certainly did

Saving for my reference

hi all let me start by saying i dont get a lot of time to get on forums so if i dont reply to the post please dont think im being ignorant ,so at this point i will introduce my self i am geoff from hilltop motorcycles ,so in reply to the concerns over warranty, the dealers do not have the ability to back read the engen magnet part of the ecu,the only one that has the ability to back read the ecu is the factory so i safe gard my firmware by putting a trigger lock on it, onley if the ecu sees a factory code from the factory it will reset to af actory std sate thus protecting your warranty and my forumware ,so a dealer cannot override the mapping or back read it in anyway with an up date ,if you need more info just give me a call on 01455 848522 .ps thank you all for the comments on my work it means a lot as i have invested a lot of time and cash in to factory ecu programing and engen management software design :beerjug:
