...I was wondering, if I could find a small TV IR replacement remote that could 'learn', I could stick it on my handlebars and have a zoom in/out function etc, just like the Fancy BMW version...
Long, long ago, when I got my first 25xx GPSR, I took the Garmin remote that came in the box and stuck it to the brake master cylinder with Velcro hook and loop tape. I then left it there for the next 18 months, and never removed it, even when I was washing the moto with a power washer. The remote worked fine, water does not seem to bother it.
The remote for the 27xx series is slightly different so far as the button layout is concerned, but substantially the same so far as the design and construction is concerned. I put Velcro on the back of it and stuck it in the same place at the beginning of last summer, and have not removed it since.
Garmin does not promise that the remote is waterproof because the design of the unit is such that the battery compartment is not sealed up. However, I can tell you from personal experience that water, snow, dust, dirt, pressure washers, etc. have no effect on the thing whatsoever. In other words, if you want to stick your existing remote on the moto and use it, go right ahead.
I like having the zoom in and zoom out buttons on the remote - I don't really use the other buttons much, though.
