Remote key after 3 new batteries.

funny enough i have the same problem with my 2016 keyless.

The original battery read via multimeter 2.7v so under voltage. Popped in a brand new duracell measuring 3v and guess what batt low error. message keeps appearing.

I wonder if it needs resetting? I have motoscan software so will explore the weekend.

Hope it is not the fob as no warranty. Pain in the fookin ass all these electonic bulll shit.

I did change the batteries once and still got the low battery warning. It wasn't the correct battery .

So people just suffer with tech, or change !

Yup, I had the battery message a few times. Changed the battery for a quality item, but still happened. This went on for a while so dealer looked into it and insisted I tried the ‘BMW’ battery which I did. Couple of weeks later same message. Turns out the receiver unit was faulty. So that whole black box that includes the on/off button and all that goes with it was replaced under warranty. No issues since.

Mine will flash up as no key seen if I have it in my jeans pocket when on the bike. Put it in my jacket and it see's it again?... so what range do they have??

I’ve put 2 new batteries in my fob this year so far. The first two were from a pac I had that were made and sold by a chinese company. I bought a Duracell replacement (prolly made in the same factory) which seems to be behaving itself.

Original battery for my 750GS lasted 18 months, then died. I replaced it with a Duracell just before annual service and on collection, Service Manager gave me back the Duracell and said that it showed up as KEYLO and he'd replaced it with a Varta battery on BMW's recommendation :nenau

I used Varta (dealer provided) Duracell and Panasonic batteries. Some lasted a month, others three or so, but the warning on the TFT came back eventually. Dealer thought it was the key fob at fault but further investigation identified the culprit as the control unit in the bike. Replaced under warranty and so far, so good.

What's the theory on the control unit draining fob batteries? Assuming no interaction when the bike's parked up and the key's out of range, so presumably only while the bike's being ridden and constantly being pinged?

I think that was the issue, the fact that the batteries were not being drained (I checked them) but the TFT suggested otherwise.

The key can still be used to start the bike if the battery's flat.

Indeed they can. Big fan of keyless here, even with the problems I have had. I’ve had problems with key ignition systems over the years too, so both systems come with failings. Let stays in my inside pocket now and is therefore less likely that I lose it!

Same here. I think its a great move forward. SInce my 15 GSA. I also think the negative comes more from those who haven't got it, but deep down they'd love it, Like the TFT. Envy can be ugly at times ......

The only scenario I can think where failure might get you in a pickle is with the lock release for the petrol cap- not necessarily the RF fob failing, but the servo-actuated fuel cap release.

The plastic key will unlock the fuel cap the same as the remote key.
The physical lock can fail the same as the Piston rings? :nenau

Absolutely, but I was pandering to the accusation that the keyless brings with it risk, complication, hellfire and damnation over and above a non-keyless bike.
