Removable baffle for BOS silencer

I have just fitted a BOS silencer to my 1200GS and having removed the small bolt I am unsure how to get the removable baffle out? I took it the centre part is the bit to remove, although there is a small ring that fits between the outer hole and the inner. This removes easily but usually when you see race silencers there is nothing inside the outlet pipe? Can anyone shed any light on this the instructions only say about more information on the warrenty booklet which seems to be missing

You're meant to undo the bolt, grab the centerpiece with molegrips or pliers & give them a hearty belt with a hammer. There is a small spot weld in there that you need to fracture.
Now...That's the theory, in practice I found the "belt with a hammer" to be a excessive, having a carbon can I decided that the effort could be damaging & gave up. Also I have asked the sages onsite here if it were replacable if removed but alas no replys....

Yes it's removable and yes it goes back in

On my old silencer the inner tube and outer ring came out together.

On my new one they are held together by the bolt but, when this is removed they are seperate pieces.

On mine the bolt comes out easily tehn the baffle is loose but still held in with something. I've tried to pull it out with mole grips but no matter how I twist, turn and wiggle it, it still won't come out

More force required??

Yes it's removable and yes it goes back in

Ye the outer ring comes out easily but the inner only comes out about 1 inch or so and thats pulling quite hard with mole grips It then seems to get jammed at the top
Being new I didn't want to damage it

It does need a fair bit of 'wiggling' but, once the bolt is out there is nothing else holding it in so I just think it's a matter of perserverance and giving it a bit of 'welly' - 'cos it's angled the bend gets stuck, it just needs a bit of persuasion.

Mines was pretty tight to come out too, took a fair pull with the vice grips and had to turn it fae side t side. Didn't make much difference once was out tho, boss system i had had a baffle in the Y piece....

That is what mine is like I didn't try to remove it again yesterday as it was way too cold in my garage so I will try again next weekend. I thought it would come out easier once the bolt was out

Took my BOS baffle out at the weekend and know what you mean - it is tight.

Found that you need to remove the outer ring first and then the main baffle comes out ok. Just used 2 pairs of long nosed pliers and with a bit a wrigling it came out ok.

I did remove the outer ring first once I worked out it came out seperatly but even using small mole grips I couldn't get the inner bit out. I will try bigger grips next time and more force

Once you have taken the bolt and sleeve out, it is only friction that is still holding the baffle in place. There is a flange on the baffle which is a tight fit inside the exhaust so that it does not rattle - spraying a bit of WD40 on this may help it to slide out a bit more easily

Paul I am not sure if it's the flange or the baffles change of angle that is my problem but I will try some WD40. Thanks for the photo and advice I must say I am suprised at the length of the baffle I thought it would be a short bit at the outlet!

mamaged to pop it out today, sprayed a little bit of WD40 and gave it a bit of welly! Knurlled it up a bit but not really a problem.

Anyone had any problems from the fuzz about the noise????

My reasoning for not removing it. If I ferked it up & found the noise offensive I couldn't return to status quo....

Still not that offensive with the baffle out (keep the revs down when passing policemen) - I refitted the outer ring bit so that it does not look like there is something "missing" and the can is still E marked of course

Not at all - have even been out riding with the boys in blue. It's not exactly loud with the baffle out though is it, just a bit more 'fruity'

You won't feck it up, honest. Mine goes back in (for long trips) on a regular basis - they are meant to be able to be removed and replaced.
