Hi Guys

Question for you guys who have removed your Integral ABS, im trying to work out what switches i need, i need to know what BMW part no.s to order to replace the existing ABS switches as i know they work in opposite ways, i want to avoid going hacking into wires etc etc so just want to replace parts

Cheers

Mark

ABS

Which model and year are you talking about?.

Then cut the wires on the new switch and resolder them to suit the old conectors:aidan

for a non abs what tho? there is no non abs rt available and non abs 1150GS switches use diff connections

The abs switches are closed when no being used and open when being pressed/pulled on.

You need to order some switches that are open when not being used and closed when they are.

Simples.

You can also get a relay and use the existing switches to effectively reverse their use.

Mark go put the kettle on and have look at the following posts from the other beemer forums, also talk to Darren at Motorworks he has been doing a bit of research into this subject and can supply parts and wiring diagrams.

You will see in the second link that the brake switch issue has been fixed by tapping into the redundant ABS loom using a relay instead of replacing the switches.

Hope this helps.

ok, next problem....i only have a tail light/brake light when the ABS unit is plugged in, how do i fix this?? as i'd like to remove unit altogether

Does your Ma still spoon feed you?

Of course.............i wouldnt do it meself now would i...........

I have looked at all these forums and posts but havent yet found out how to get tail light working without ABS unit, im lost in it..........

Fair enough, there is a lot of info there which I hope will prove usefull to other forum users as well as yourself. If you go to second post on page 2 of the first link you will find the list of parts supplied buy Motorworks. The switches are from the non abs R1150GS / R1150R. You will have to buy the switches any way so yoou might as well get them from Motorworks, order by phone and tell them what you are planning to do they are very helpful.

Ride safe.

I posted a wiring diagram and pictures of the servo/abs removal over two years ago, plus what switches and section of brake line you'll need.
Since copied by a independant bmw parts supplier (who passed on the advice for later K series bikes and then found out it's wrong for those bikes, so i'll be keeping the wiring diagrams for all the other models to myself :D) who will also sell you a vastly overpriced conversion kit :augie

Here it is from an old post. The part that you need is in red.

Yes there are 23 wires - i've sat for half a day and traced and checked the function of each and every one of them.
And now for your benefit i'll let you have all the knowledge that you need to do the job for no cost and no effort to your good self. And bear in mind that anything you read on your USA websites, is for some reason always made much more complicated than is necessary.

Rear light wiring - open the fuse box, and add a link between the grey/white (from the rear light) with the grey/black output wire from fuse number 2 .

To wire the brake lights - On the servo plug ( now redundant) from the loom, cut back the sheathing and link the green( iginition live), white/blue, yellow/green all together - and the grey/yellow, yellow/black, white/yellow together. ignore all the other wires.
So you now have two seperate circuits, one for the rear brake light and one for the front brake light .

next step....got the wiring instructions from darren in motorworks, ( a very difficult man to get ) and he told me what to join together on the large ABS unit plug, have done it but im now left with a constant brake and tail light, i assume this was wiring for the original switches...is there an easy fix or do i have to re-wire the old switches back in??

i'd tell you but seing as you've ignored what myself and others have said so far i'll let someone else see if they can be bothered :D :clap

:) dont be like that...........im getting told so many feckin different things....

"open the fuse box, and add a link between the grey/white (from the rear light) with the grey/black output wire from fuse number 2"

Ive been told i wouldnt have to go near fuse box and all i have to re wire is around the ABS plug

ok...even weirder...i have a fully functional front brake switch and light but the rear isnt working????

Assuming you've taken note of Steptoes's advise regarding the wiring it is still possible not to have a rear brake light:confused:...in this case, consult your Haynes Manual wiring diagram and splice into the loom in the fuse box and feed that wire into the rear brake light wire.:thumb
