Removal of fork leg bottom clamp, 640 adv

Hi,

Please could anyone advise me how to remove the lower part of the fork leg from my 640's White Power forks?

The part is the alloy 'foot' which fastens to the bottom of the stanchion and which in turn carries the axle support.

Picture not working, but if it's what I think it is, why do you want to remove it?

Ah! Picture works eventually. Don't know that it can be removed. I'll have a good look at mine tonight, but still begs the question why. I assume yours has a problem?

Why? Because the small bolt which retains one of the mudguard stays has sheared, is now accompanied by part of a screw extractor... ... and needs to be spark eroded. To do that, the engineers need the part removed from the bike.

You need to get your hands on a WP fork service manual.
You have to pull the fork to bits to do it.
Ask on ktmforum - someone will give you what you need to know.

Oops! That isn't nice. Maybe now's a good time to get a high mudguard kit? Taking the forks apart is a bit of a specialist job, will just taking the fork leg out of the bike be enough for the engineer?
