Removal of heated grip wires on R1100GS

Good morning gentlemen.

My front brake master cylinder is leaking badly again, despite replacement of the piston and seal 'kit' last year. I assume that the bore is shot, and have sourced a good replacement all the way from (slightly drier than Scotland) Nevada.

Ive looked at the book of lies but its not that clear about how the wires from the heated grip need dealt with, as I suppose the grip will have to be slid further than the wires have slack to get off the end of the bar. Can the 2 wires be carefully released from where they enter the loom, a bit of string tied to them for pulling back through after the assembly has been replaced?

Any tricks or things to watch out for that I should be aware of?

Yes they can be disconnected easily, they're plugged in under the tank.

cheers, i’ll have a look. just didn’t want to disassemble and find that they were hard wired in to a larger part of the loom.

If it's the same as the 1150, follow the wires as the come out of the bars. One wire either side of the headstock and eventually wind up and a simple plug one left another right. If you want to fully remove, you will probably have to pop the plug off of snip the wire, but plenty to play with.

No need to cut the wires to remove them from the plug. Push a small pick down the aperture in the plug to bend the small licking tab back, then pull out the terminal from the plug. Flick up the tab when re-inserting the terminal so it locks back in the plug when reassembling .
