Number one son decided he would much rather have brakes without ABS, so a kit of front and rear lines from Goodridge was ordered..

This afternoon we did the deed..
I think the worst part of the whole job is whiddling the old unwanted steel pipes off the bike.
All together I reckon we took off about 4 kilos of iron mongery ( Is the ABS pump worth putting on eBay ? ) and the whole job took less that 90 minutes..

As an added bonus, with a little chopping around the battery is being moved to where the pump was which will give him loads room for some extra tools or whatever under the tank..

Anyone contemplating the job can rest assured it is a real easy one to do :P

Mind you, I know darned well that next time the tank is lifted when I am around it will befall me to remove the zillion wires and plugs currently taped up and hidden away under there ! :blast

ABS modulators if working ok worth a bloody fortune get it on ebay new cost £800 plus fitting and vat

I would have just disable it ... why waste the motorcycle resale value by removing it

How many do you want - second hand as common as muck, didn't think anyone but an idiot bought them new. And whats this VAT stuff :nenau

IMO the ABS models should be cheaper second hand as the bike is alot better without it. Although if you have a heavy right hand then its always a good idea.

Personally I wouldnt have ABS on cars if I had the option, its nearly killed me a few times!!!

Load of extra weight, load of extra pipes, loads of extra grief.
My own GS aint got it on but if it did have it too would be removed..
EBC HH sintered and steel lines for me

ABS.

Abysmal Braking Subsidised ( with mechanical mayhem ! )

Pray tell....how?

One particular car stands out, a Jeep Cherokee. Was brilliant in every condition except snow.

The ABS was so powerful that it was almost impossible to brake at all as it would FORCE the pedal back up at you. With no means of disabling ABS systems I would rather not have it at all.

Incidentally ive had one close call on the GS where ABS would have helped but I managed to control the bike myself. Im maybe not as quick as ABS but I still managed it.

Ive also ridden the GS through some serious snow over 2 days through Scotland and im sure that ABS would have buggered me up on a few occasions should I have not turned it off first.

Bikes have hit the nail on the head with the ability to turn it off but my point is that if your turning it off and dont need it to safely stop, then why have the additional problems that seem to come hand in hand with ABS, the additional service costs, and increased complexities of self servicing.

Im pleased my long hunt for the perfect bike found me one without ABS.

Yea ABS almost got me in a couple of crashes , it sucks, but it saved my butt more times then it got me in trouble. I wouldn't get a car without ABS , as for a bike, before I will buy my GS , I will test both of the versions.
