Removing Ali facing on Vario topbox/panniers

I want to put a small rack onto the topbox lid. I've got as far as removing all the locking mech. edging etc (to fit some bungie fixings) but have not noticed how the Ali facing is fixed.
Anyone taken the facing off? I think, to bolt through, I might need to put a spacer under the raised areas.

Had a quick look, and if you have removed the top and bottom plastic faces, it should up-clip or just slide out. Just don't force it, till you can see how it fits

Tried the very same thing, the ally facing is bonded and bends really easy, I gave up in the end and fitted these for strapping the tent too when I take my son camping, not sure about the looks but solid and serve a purpose.
