Aaaargh! Just bought a new Arai R after seven happy years with the Quantum E.

The new helmet takes the same visors, but removal and refitting seems to use a completely different system.

With the old helmet it was a quick job. But I can't seem to get the hang of it with the R and Arai's instructions may as well be written in Japanese for all the help they are.

Anyone able to explain simply how to attach and remove the damn things - or even better post some pics?

Actually I *think* it's the same as the old system - apparently just made 'easier' :P If you pull the visor into it's fully open position, two little grey tabs should appear. Push these up and they release the bottom edges of the visor. Then it's back to the old system of pulling the bottom edges of the visor outwards, whilst at the same time lifting the visor out of its fixings.

To put it back in again, its the same as before. Just locate the visor as best you can, push and wince while you wait for that horrible cracking noise - then check it works and isn't broken :D

Hope this helps....

Also if the visor seems stiff to open and close take it off and start again. I didn't and the side pod popped off while I was moving. Luckily it didn't break when it hit the road.
It is very scary when you CRACK it back on too.

I've broken several side pods on quantum E's and F's over the years, and found my Astro-R race even worse, but one of the benefits of a tour-x is that it has nice plastic screws which are far better than the sutpid super asics( or whatever its called ) system

Should we point out that the correct way to remove or re-fit an Arai side-pod is with the visor removed from the helmet, you push back the small red sliding catches inside the side-pod and then ease the pod off or on.

Had Arai's for years and never had a problem. Removal sounds nasty, but you get used to that. Can easily change visors without even taking the helmet off.

Arai Visor removal dead easy can even be done one handed while using a camera.

Step 1 Open the visor up fully! and the little tabs will pop out.

Lift little tab up until it splays the side pods.

When Putting the visor back in keep it at about the same angle and you will feel a bit of resitance when it reaches about here.

Job done scratches and bugs optional. Arai visors are normally a bit sticky at first. The more you take them on and off the easier it gets! :D

Anyone got any ideas regarding earlier Arai's? I have an RV - pre lever visor removal.
My visor won't stay open even tho' it's a brand new visor. I put the silicon as per instructed & now it's b*ggered

Also how do I remove the side pods?

Remove the visor, clean off the silicon and try again. To remove the visor, turn the helmet on its side, place the heel of one hand on the side pod and press down on it, to prevent it breaking off, twist the side of the visor and pul it forward to release it.

Once you've removed it, you should see two small red prongs inside the opening of the side pod. Push those in towards the rear of the helmet to release the side pod. Having said that an RV must be how old now...? So the plastic might be a bit brittle. It's only too easy to break the retaining tags off the side pods.
