Removing lambda sensor

Motorworks has advised me this is what they tell all their customers to do when they fit a can and Y piece, have mentioned it in another thread and had a couple of different responses... what do you all think ? has anyone else done this WITHOUT using a poswerrchip or similar? Would it now run way to rich?? or does it jusat revert to stock settings??

All the aftermarket zorsts I know of retain the lambda sensor
ie: Remus, Lazer, Sebring, Akroprovic, Vanderlinde, etc due to the
mod being inside the parameters of the Moditec settings. My understanding is that if you remove the lambda sensor the bike will revert to a default setting and you will need to fit a pot.
My experience is that I have retained the sensor and supplimented settings with a Teclusion to ensure that scoot does not run too lean.

There is only one reason to remove the sensor and that is if you have the techlusion tfi 1003 (not to be confused with the R259)

The BMW fuel injection system incorporates the use of a oxygen sensor to control fuel delivery in the highway cruise operating range.The ECU or brain of the fuel injection system only looks at the oxygen sensor in this range, and it is known as "closed-loop ." In closed-loop, the oxygen sensor (being an emission based, automotive product) pulls the fuel mixture down to an air-fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1, known as stoichiometric ( the theoretical most complete combustion burn ). This lean condition combined with the light loads of cruising create a less than optimum driving experience.

Lamda Sensor

With a Quill T3 (see my post in July, not having seen yours!). Noone advised me, I just forgot to reattach before I had bolted the new can on! Have run 5 weeks with better performance, BETTER fuel consumption and no exhaust tail pipe evidence of running too lean.

for that, is better to check the spark plugs.

Given that lean running (for better emissions control) is acknowledged as a major cause of surging and other problems with the 259 engine, I'd suggest that any improvement in fuel consumption was pretty well bound to point to an overall weaker mixture.

If that was my bike, I'd put it on a dyno and check it (checking the plugs would be a good first step), rather than trust to luck...
