Has anyone done this in the past, any tips?

The BMW OE shock as an allen key at the top to and prevent the shock body turning when you remove the top nut. The ohlins unit doesn't have this, any tips to stop the shock turning when you undo the top nut?

Thanks

Steve

I've only got standard handy tools, i.e. socket set etc no airlines unfortunately :(

Hi
had similar problem on fitting Wilbers to 1150GS.
Wilbers have a , if I am right, size 34 nut topend to hold the stem from turning
when you tighten the top. However you need to get into the narrow part
of frame bulkhead from underneath and thats very difficult without special tool.
I ended up heating and bending a size 34 spanner
Have a look if there is any way to counterhold the stem.
It actually didnt need a lot of torque

If you're removing it to sell it .... I could be interested :thumb2

Don't forget to heat the threaded end to loosen the thread lock.

Use a sharp flat bladed screw driver to wedge under the nut as you turn it. Or if it will get into place wedge between the shock top and mounting bracket.

If the thread pokes through far enough, try a mole grip with aluminium sheet under the jaws to protect the threads.
