Hi Guys.......... Bit of a strange one this, I am trying to remove the pannier racks from my GSA to fit new Touratech pannier racks to fit my Touratech boxes, but i am struggling to get the pannier racks off. I have snapped 2 x T40 bits and not a sign of anything slacking up. I would be grateful if you have any advise on this one?

Cheers

On the top 2 bolts go on/through the luggage rack? They are a bit stiff initially as they go into an open hole, which is open to the elements. Spray some penetration fluid down and let it get to work. Then use an impact wrench to break the initial bond. If you don't have one, tap your T40 socket/wrench with a hammer as your putting rotational force on it,

They have locktite on the threads, try some heat.

Do you have access to either a heat gun or hair dryer that you could use to heat up the bolt beforehand......?
Additionally, are you using an extension on the bit holder/breaker bar?!

I have some for sale LS. Just the pannier racks. No topbox rack and no gsa type footrests though.
Away atm but can send pics when I’m home on Friday.

Hi Steve, that's good, I don't need the topbox rack as I have fitted a Givi Trekker, I'm sure I can source the footrests with the right connections from elsewhere. I'm in no rush as we are away at the moment also. Having gone from a TC1200GSA and the convenience of the big open top ally panniers to the 1250GS I just can't live with the varios.

Keep an eye on this ebay seller - they break salvage bikes (its the other half of 4th Dimension). I got the left and right rack for a total of £140. Then bought the *fitting kit (although didn't need half of it) from BMW which was £83, the cross brace which was £50. Then found out i needed the footpegs which are £130 each......

*Fitting Kit; You only need the 2 bolts which attach the rear cross bar, the 2 brackets which mount on the footpegs which the frames bolt into, and those 2 bolts. i believe you could order it all separately.

Try bullshiftsales

The boxes are excellent and come with racks

The GSA racks are hard to come by, expensive and you also need to change the foot pegs

Mine have the cross bar and bolts plus the brackets that fasten under the pillion pegs.
The GSA type pegs aren’t required if not carrying a pillion. Just bolt the brackets straight on with shorter bolts.
I’ve probably got some bolts that would secure these brackets if pillion pegs aren’t required.

FYI , all parts from 4D ....are removed from damaged m/cs ......4D ,have been paid to replace them , any parts they sell are almost pure profit to them.

they did a repair on a bike for a punter , the bill was £1800 . i had quoted £1200 . the job STILL went to 4D . when you all moan about cost of insurance .....this is where your money goes.

Yep, i only knew of them as one of my previous bikes went there. It’s why on the parts I offer a bid rather than the price they advertise them for.
They’re down the road from where I work so easy to go get them if needed

Thanks everybody for the info regarding pannier rails for sale, I;ll be taking a good look at the options.
