Hi all

About to take my wheels off for the first time (yes, I'm a rubber virgin!:P) to get some TKC80's fitted for some off-roading. I've not done it before and whilst I have discovered some good hints in terms of supporting the front and so on I'm uncertain of the best way to replace the wheels - do you need to do anything to the pads or be careful in any way (e.g. don't squeeze the brakes whilst the wheels are off :eek) or anything else?

A pretty thick question but I don't know.....:augie

Easy job, rear wheel just take out the 5 bolts and the wheel comes off. For the front remove the two bolts that hold the brake calipers, give the calipers a slight wiggle and they will pull off, at this point I pull them back out the way and tie them to the crash bars. Slacken the pinch bolt and then take out the spindle bolt, note the way the spacers come out and be careful if the bike has an ABS sensor you don't hit it with the disc, reassembly is just the opposite, take your time and it is an easy job.
As you have guessed do not touch the brakes when the calipers have been removed or you could end up in all sorts of bother.

good luck :)

To lift the front wheel off the ground , put a carjack or use wooden blocks or even bricks under the engine skid plate while pushing the rear end down. After loosening the front axle pinch bolt you need to unscrew the front axle with a 22mm hex bit. If you don't have this hex, try searching this forum or try any car accessory shop. Some sparkplug sockets have a 22mm hex "nut" in one end. Just remove the rubber insert and use the socket reversed. Use a torque wrench when assembling!:thumb
Good luck!

Thanks guys... Got a hex bit so should be ok and will use correct torque settings afterwards. Looking forward to more grip off road!!!
