Removing scuffs from OE crash bars

I remember reading a way of removing scuffs from GS lower bars on here.

Some magic with wet and dry or something similar - can I find it again - no chance!

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Fine wet and dry used with WD40 for lube does the job

Why remove the scuffs? They are crash bars after all.
