I'm pretty sure they're both (Cook1e certainly is) talking about removal of the servo ABS on the later bikes. This came in in late 2002, you say your bike is earlier than that?

Errr, I think not. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but Cook1ie and Smug are talking about bypassing the servo - your bike doesn't have a servo.

Tricjer2, you're not really helping yourself here - what is the fault that causes you to suspect the abs is faulty? There may wel be a less radical fix for your problem.

Edit: oops beaten to it by ahutcheon

Cookie is pointing out the very simple way to reconnect the brake lines without having to make up any copper pipe work.
This applies the same to all bikes whatever the year.

Please, anyone feel free to carry on with the circle of confusion by adding random facts you've read about on the internet but have no real idea of their relevance :D

I defer to your greater knowledge. Apologies for any confusion, all makes sense now.

thanks for all the info but now i am well confused ,my bmw was first reg on the 21/6/2000 i part x my blackbird for this bike i pic it up on the 10/1/14 it seemed to be ok a week later the abs light started to flash after looking on the forum i put a new battery on the bike and reset the abs all lights go out :thumb then 2/3 days latter the back wheel started to lock up all the time /wet or dry /wen breaking abs light are flashing i put new break pads in back and front and made sure the piston all moved and were not ceased still the same prob went to a dealer and he told me i need a new abs unit .. so i ask on her for help /info /some one who can sort this for cash //got sum good info back but very confused ,as i put in a earlier post i will just sell the bmw and go back to what i no as this bike is fecking me right off thank you for all the info

If you part-exchanged it, why not go back to the dealer you bought it off? Or get your Honda back, whatever!

i got it sold as seen ..just looking on the net to see where i stand under the trade act as it was a back street bike dealer i have phone them and said about the problems and there reply was it was ok wen it left us

Simple answer is stick the bike in a van and take it to Steptoe. He will repair or remove ABS and get him to check it over to make sure it's running right, you get your bike with brakes that work and it will be running sweet. Then ride the bike for a couple of months to see how you get on with it and then decide if it's the right bike for you.

Didn't realise that it could be done without any extra means of joining the pipes.:thumb

You live and learn (die and forget it all).

I stand corrected

in a early post i did put if Steptoe would like to sort it out i would send it his way as he seems to no his stuff and tell me what needs to b sorted with no bull/hit // i do like the bmw that is why i got one and got away form the backache from the black bird

At the risk of being a little controversial, can those with Abs still working, just man the fuck up, and remove it anyway, what kind of soft pussy bikers are you! :D

Do you know I remember when they said something similar about disc brakes, or brakes on both wheels for that matter!

John

PS What's wrong with a soft pussy?

IMO it is a very poor system because it switches off for too long when activated. Very difficult to work out where one is likely to eventually stop especially when using TKC80s.

The later ABS system as fitted to the K1200S puts it to shame.

just got back form the local back street bike shop thay will do the copper link as suggested by Smug that is what i as for 3hr work £100 ha ho it will b sorted

Might not do the job if your rear brake hose is collapsing internally causing the rear to lock on

PS if u are trippy go do yourself with the rough end of a pine apple if not just ignore the ps

You do not need to do any pipe work at all on front or rear brakes.

It's an hours work. Including stopping for a cup of tea.
