I was hoping someone might be able to help me as this is driving me nuts.

I have an 04 Gs and I recently got a Garmin GPS. I am trying to remove the dust cover (little black cap) from the CANbus connection which is located near the handlebars. I just cant figure out how to remove it and it is driving me nuts :) I was hoping someone could guide me through it, possibly with some pics which would really help.

Thanks
Richard

I've got some pictures somewhere if you search under my name, but not of taking it off I don't think. Main thing to know is there is a little catch on there that needs to be depressed. I used a small watchmakers screwdriver to release it. It's a bit fiddly, but if you can wedge something in there it will come off easy enough. It will also help if you go in through the side (tank panels off) and cut some of the loom tape holding it in place. It's easy enough to secure again if you need.

Right, now just to be clear so that I am not a complete eejit when it comes to this, I lift the cover up and there should be a small black catch that can be undone? Or is this actually located beneath the fairing closer to the engine? My impression was that you could remove the cap from the plug that is fitted into the fairing. Am I way off?

Thanks in advance btw really appreciate all the advice :)

Im not sure where the CAN-bus socket is on the 04 model (I have an 08 version) but you will need a flat blade precision screwdriver to prise a small flap up a little bit on the side of the socket - dont get heavy handed with the flap as the lug that hold the dust cap in is quite small. The cap should slide off easily.

If you want I can get a photo of the socket on my one to illustrate.

If you look at the new lead you have just bought, you can see how the thing latches together. I had the same problem. It's not made any easier by the location of the damn thing!

I know what ya all mean! It was a pain to get at but I finally managed to get at it and got everything hooked up! Not exactly the most user friendly set up all right but sorted! Thanks to everyone for your help on this!!
