So, went to change the front tire. So did the tool kit come with the tool to remove the front axle? Or do you have to buy one.

I have replaced my rear tire a couple times, but I never have replace the front tire myself. So I was wondering if I had lost the tool you need to remove the front axle or did I never get one. My Bike is an 05 1200GS.

Thanks

Rick

Nope,I'm afraid you will have to buy one. I bought from ebay for a couple of quid ,it is only a bit of hex bar cut off but does the job.

Thanks doyle and Mr K.

I will have to track down my spark plug socket. I did try what I thought was my 1200 spark plug socket and it was bit too large to fix in the axle. I will have to see if it fits the plug. But I guess I just pick up a 22 mm hex.

Worth buying the proper tool £10 ish mine has 4 sizes on it,I have had axels that took considrerable force to remove a cheapo plug spanner would've bent itself & or damaged axel too !

It's really not worth the hastle for sake of a few £s when bike costs £1000s :blast then again seen so many bodges on cars vans & bikes lol !

Use a spark plug socket inserted backwards with a long arm inserted from the opposite side, works a treat and a perfect fit.

I bought a Motrax one from local motorbike shop. Fits 19, 22 and 24 mm socketed spindles so is useful for virtually any modern bike.

You also need the correct Torx keys that are also not in the bike tool kit.
I bought the trimmed off hex bar which does the job fine. The plug spanner trick looks like this but you need the right size of plug socket. (Which this is not)

Way back in 2004 the box spanner for the spark plug was also the BMW provided tool for the axle.
