Just for the intellectual exercise;

The gearshift pro can be retro fitted but can it be retro removed? Just in case I loathe it as much as I did on the S1000XR although I didn't know it was there on the GS when I test rode both back to back.

I don't see why not but if you didn't like it on the XR you will hate it on the GS as it is nowhere near as good as it is on the XR.

You do not have to use it even if you have it as the clutched gear changes will still work

As I mentioned in my test ride 'report', I honestly thought the GS didn't have it fitted becuase when I tried it on the downshift the bike lurched like I'd kicked it in the nuts. I then went back to riding it like a normal bike and it was a lovely ride. I suppose it can just sit there and be shite, as long as it doesn't bother me!

I'm sure it can be removed. the question is how difficult.
I'd guess a dealer could disable it in the CPU/whatever. Its a dealer fit after all.

I'm still getting used to it on my GS, but initial reaction is I love it.

To fit it needs a ecu update so I would assume that its removal needs another ecu update, just ride the bike normally using the clutch and ignore the quickshift , it's what I do

Tend to agree with the above, downshifts are terrible on my GS, if it wasn't for the revs blip I wouldn't thimk it had been fitted at all. Much quicker and smoother just to downshift the 'normal' way.

It sounds like it needed to be err..fettled or re synced on the bike you rode. Mine is pretty slick on the way down, blips the throttle if the difference between gear speeds are too great (to speed the box up I guess). It can be a little clunky on the way up, which is a little unexpected. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I try and forget I have it.

If it comes already installed on the bike, leave it on there, but just don't use it.:thumb

You'll only have to refit it come resale time anyway.:blagblah

Even if you remove it ,to sell it to fit it onto another bike requires a unique activation key to synch it to the bikes ecu (related to the bikes vin number) and then programmed by a BMW dealer

Yeah, figured that. Monday evening I'll be heading out somewhere distant for dinner with the gf and on Tuesday I'm off to St Andrews and back via somewhere equally distant so possibly ready for the 1st service on Wednesday

Yes it can - I asked my dealer this very question when I opted to put it on my '14 plate. They said, no problem taking it back off and can even be transported onto another bike (that's compatible with the system) after you've taken it off.

Happy days.

That's good to know, so if it doesn't work properly, or I hate it, I can sort it out.

Give yourself time to become familiar with Gear Shift Assist Pro you never know you may grow to like it, I think it's great ;)

I'm planning my running in trip as we speak. Should have it ready for the 600 miler by Thursday, weather, work and dog permitting.

As long as I can genuinely use or ignore then I'll be quite happy.

At my bikes 1st service a couple of weeks ago they updated the software and the shift assist has been much better since then, also it seems to work better if you are going for it more, which off course you don't do (as much) while running in.
I'm growing to like mine.

Shift Assist software update done yesterday on my GSA, definitely an improvement, smoother all round particularly on downshifts with a distinctly different exhaust sound when changing down to 3rd and lower. I still seem to get a bit of an exhaust 'pop' sound and a small jump going up from 1st to 2nd so perhaps I need to refine my timings when to change!!? Overall anyone wondering if they should include this option to their bike I wholeheartedly would say yes, well worth the cost of it.
